Your Standby Switch Is A Lie!

Some have them, some don't.
You'll probably find that if it doesn't have one, it doesn't need one.
I considered putting one on my Ibanez TSA5, but found out it wasn't necessary.
 
Old habits die hard - I still felt obligated to leave my amp on standby to "cool down" before killing the power.
 
I remember reading something Randall Smith (Mesa/Boogie) wrote years ago about the standby switch, where he said essentially the same thing but that players in gigging bands would still want it to mute the amp between sets so they can keep the thing warm, so makers keep putting them in. Sounds reasonable to me - I still want them for that reason because I don't want to be messing around with the volume to take a break once I get it dialed in.
 
I'll have to research this bit of news a little bit more. Sounds like Colin is saying that all those voltages at the plates of the tubes do not make a difference in tube life. I'm having a hard time accepting that.
