Your Pick?

Ok. Time to sound of with your choice of picks. My neighbor uses a pick that's so thick it could pass for a piece of tank armour!
Me? I'm still stuck in the 60's when "thin was in" and if you couldn't read a newspaper through it, you had the wrong kind. So today it's the Dunlop Tortex white .50mm "THE WEDGE". Strumming conventional and punching out lead licks I rotate 90 degrees and play off the rounded side. A trick uncle Ted taught me years ago in huntin camp.

So, whatcha usin' for your pick?

i was using the Grey Dunlop ahhh what is it .62 mm pick but i ran out of them and have been using a .71mm .im more of a Strummer than a lead man so i liked the .62mm but ive been gettin used to the .71mm .im not home so i forget the brand but they seem good

I have a whole bowl of picks....and my Son got me an 18 pick assortment for my birthday......great kid. ANd one Sp8ctre included some interesting styles in a recent shipment of tuners (thank you Chris)
Rubber....wood....metal...tusq. tortex....poly...nylon...celluloid....el cheapo plastico......got a couple of them RVA interesting feel..........I think that they came from you I believe.......so many sizes......so many......

I lean towards the Jim Dunlop nylon grey

Dunlop Primetone std with grip, 1mm . These are my new favorite. seems like such a steady pick in my hand. Nice clear crisp.

Dunlop Ultex std, 1.14mm. Long lasting. Non slip. Just a great sounding pick.

I have a whole slew of different picks, but my trusty brass TECK PICK which I bought back in 1988 is my go-to pick. I can get some great tones from this pick and it's worth checking out.

I have a few sizes. The thickest is 1.14mm, then 1.07 and 0.73. Then come two pointed picks I make myself. The first one is cut from a big bottle of laundry detergent, and the second from a Coke can (diet Coke for a lighter sound).

Either Dunlop Tortex orange .60s or Fender Mediums.

I recently started using nylon Dava Picks.

They have a textured rubber sheathing around the wide end of the pick. This helps keep the pick from slipping in your fingers better than other textured picks I've used. Plus, if you rotate the pick so the rubber edge strikes the string, you can get a softer attack on the strings. It's kind of like having two picks in one.

I also use some very fine sandpaper to round the sharp end of the pick, just slightly.

I also have other picks. I have a couple 2mm Adamas graphite picks, a bunch of the .73 nylon Dunlop picks, some cow hoof picks, a few agate picks, and I have a thick pick that I made out of pig skin.

I use the Dava most of the time, though.

I recently started using nylon Dava Picks.

The Dava's used to be my favorites up to about 10 years ago. Since then, I've switched over to the much thicker options and acrylic material of the V-Picks. Their transparency of colors can be an issue if you drop them, though.

Anyways, for electrics, it is V-Picks "Tradition Lite Blue Sapphire", 1.5mm thick:


For acoustics, it's their Large Pointed Ultra Lite Ruby Red:

I mostly use the Tortex Standard Blue 1.0mm for electric on mostly 10 ga strings., and the orange 0.60mm for acoustic and sometimes electric with 9's.

I'm not that picky about my picks if whatever I pick up is similar in feel to those.
I have a mix of others lying about in typically or potentially guitar rich environments around the house.

Always keep a Blue 1.0mm in my pocket too.
