Your go to amp

I would like to know what amp you tend to play most of the time? Be it convenient, tone, or favorite, for convenience I tend to go straight for the dsl40c’s , they are also set to a TV volume so as not too upset neighbors , when my grandson comes out to jump on drums I can turn up,or switch sides on the garage and use the mosfet/ origin rig . So let’s hear your preferences. Cheers Mitch

For recording, I use a Blackstar ID-core 100 watt 2x10 combo. It is wired into my DAW and is never used for anything else. All of my recordings have been made using the Blackstar and it cannot be beat in that capacity.

My everyday 'practice amp' is my DSL40C. This is also my rehearsal amp and small venue amp. I dont like how little speakers sound, so I consider the DSL40C to be the absolute minimum requirement.

I won't play through anything less.

The custom 50 watt WGS Reaper 55Hz, coupled with trial-and-error tube selection, has turned the DSL40C into a beast. At 1/2 volume, which is where I am set for rehearsals, you can feel air being moved by the amp and each palm mute feels like someone hit you across the back with a 2x12.

I also have a pair of 1980's era, 200 watt Jackson 4x12's, but those are for outdoor venues only.

Those 40’cs can fool people, they can get down right loud for such a small footprint. Cheers

I’ve downsized my rig in the last decade, gone smaller and lighter with everything. Perhaps Ironically I have better tone now and don’t give up anything in volume or projection.

My main amp, use it at least 90% of the time, is a Mesa-Boogie Mark 5:25. I use it with a variety of cabinets, open and sealed back. Just depends what sound I need. That’s also my recording amp as it has the built-in CabClone. That allows me to also use it as a standalone with headphones for practicing.

The other amp is a Mesa Mini-Rectifier. I don’t use it much but it’s a lot of fun for old-school rock/metal tones, and it is super portable for when I need that.

I also have a couple modeling amps (Boss Katana, Blackstar ID Core) but they are really just toys and don’t see a lot of use.

Right now it's my Supro Blues King
but that's still in the honeymoon phase.
Sooner or later I always go back to the
1965 BF champ or the 1964 BF Deluxe,
depending on the venue. They are also
the 2 amplifiers I record with.
A Roland SS amplifier of 1 kind or another
also lives in my car because you never
know what's gonna happen at a gig.

My most used amp is by far my 5F1 Champ clone, because it's what I use at home. One RCA 12AX7, one JAN Philips 6V6GT, (a GE 5Y3WGTB), a Weber alnico speaker & a volume control, simplicity & great tone no matter what guitar is plugged through it. Takes pedals great too.
I have miked it up for gigs a couple of times, an off axis '57 pointed towards the edge of the cone & another '57 behind it. Its great in that application too, though my preferred gigging amp is a 4 hole 50 Watter/4x12. Cheers

Right now, my Marshall MG100HDFX through my 2x12 cab with VHT Chromebacks.

I call that amp head my diamond in the rough. They got a ton of bad rap but I’ve gotten nothing but compliments on my tone and not just from you guys, when I went to do the meet and greet with the production company I was getting a ton of compliments too.

Arm that head with good speakers, take time to dial in your tone. I use the button that supposed to make it emulate the tone of a tube amp and let her rip!

I have been jonesing for a 1987 for a while, scratched that itch with the origin 50H, but it still hasn’t stopped the gas

Quite a few people dismiss this amp, we had the mg100fx, and even with the mg cab I was able to dial in some good tones. Cheers Mitch

1987's do sound good. Just a classic rock tone. They overdrive more than the 100 Watters.
Mine is a homebuilt clone of a '68 era amp, tube rectified & all 32uf filters, so it gets that sag/compression thing happening when pushed hard.
I did a thread about it in room eleven when I rebuilt it with NOS components about 6 months ago. Cheers

Well. I’m your basic bedroom player. As such, I tend to practice/play at home plugged into a Boss GT1 multi-processor. Plug in the headphones and not disturb Mrs. IbLive.

Last time I actually played electric in public was on my church’s worship team where I played my G400 thru my Traynor YGM3.

Primarily when I did play in public it’s been acoustic plugged into the house board.

I for 2 years played through headphones and a vox tone lab, when we finally got the dsl40c’s I was in for a bit of a shock, and started to dial in the amps to get what I had been hearing on the headphones. I think I have it close to what I want to hear. Cheers

Mine are usually the 50 or 100 watt JMPs. My other is a one-off made by DST Engineering. It has a Hiwatt clean channel and Soldano dirty channel. Speakers are usually the '77 Marshall 1960A cab I have at the bass player's house or the Fawn 1960A cab I have at my house. For gigs, it's the '71 Hiwatt SE4122 cab.

The JMPs are on the left. I don't get to use the '73 1987 JMP sitting on the stack that often.
