I suspect this was not supposed to be a thread to make Keef jokes, though they are fun (and funny, you got it) indeed.

But

I've always been a Keith fan and always will be.

He has always been the soul of the Rolling Stones' guitar work, though he's always been the second guitarist (at least for most of their career). Keef has always cast a shadow over Ronnie (I love him too, don't get me wrong) and even Mick Taylor, whom I deem the best guitarist the Stones have laid their eyes upon.

Keith has something that's all it takes to be a rock star with a guitar: style.

Johnny Ramone couldn't play poop. Neither could many of our idols, they just had the balls and the ideas, then it was all about grabbing a guitar and doing their thing. That's what Keef does.

I'm more of a Jimmy Page man, but if you ask me who I wanted to be, if I had to choose... You'll hear my reply: I'd have been Keith, with that very same 6thless blonde Tele. All the way. To the very end.
 
Kieth did indeed write some catchy riffs that have stood the test of time. Sticky Fingers is my favorite Stones album. I bought it as a teen. Record cover with a zipper! I also had Alice Cooper Schools Out with the opening desktop that revealed a pair of girls panties on the album. Ahhhh the good ol' days.

It's cool you don't care for them, but they have something people love. Otherwise they would never have the longevity to still be playing since 1962...

Me, I love them to death, Keef especially!

But, my band is Pink Floyd and my guitar hero is Gilmour...if you only knew how much Floyd memorabilia I have you'd think I was nuts. And I have live bootleg copies of nearly
every show they ever played. The only live shows I have more of are Zappa and that's because he was taped by many more fans...
 
I hear Keef was disappointed he was left off a recent "Celebrities most likely to die this year" list.
LOVE the STONES.
Their song arrangements seem a bit disjointed sometimes with Keef and the other guitarist(s) rhythm parts kind of stepping on each other.

Wild Horses is one of my all time favorite songs.
Love the country flavor in some of their work,
Tumblin Dice is high up the list as well.
Brown Sugar, Satisfaction, Bitch etc.
They sure cover a lot of ground; I dig their use of horn section too.

It has occurred to me or have wondered if @BlackSG91 digs the song "Paint it Black".

I was drunk and foolish one evening several years back, listening to some Stones, doing the Jagger / Chuck Berry / Angus Chicken Head walk thing and woke up with a tweaked sore neck that took like a month to heal.


Steven Wright loves the Stones, catches them when ever he can: Fred and Barney.

Monday evening, I glanced a guitar I keep in open G or Double Drop D and thought - I need to get back to learning / playing Brown Sugar.
But then it was back to UFO and IRon Maiden riffing (poorly) on Black Jackie.

Im no die hard stones fan either -- I do like some of the songs-- not all-- dont even think I ever owned 1 album-- had the 45 of Paint it black and sympathy for the devil--I think ---(its not like you dont HEAR their songs EVERYWHERE) ---I found the picture to be very interesting and meaningful-- be I like the music or not -- the lives those 2 hands have touched-- the notes-- and songs and stories they have told -- are woven into the fabric of the world---

PLay Jumping Jack flash ANYWHERE on the globe and SOMEONE will start dancing--- there is MUCH more in that picture that just some arthritic old hands ------ much much more----

DO I LOVE the stones (no -- TBTH I cant STAND Mick-- prances around like an 8 year old girl) --- but I do respect the fact they have been pro musicians at a world class level as long as I been alive----- dont care who ya are -- THAT is impressive -- in ANY line of work!

Ya, you gotta have respect for a band that has been around as long as the Stones. They've done and achieved more than a whole lot of bands dream of...
 
Keef is just fine, but this is the only real guitar player that band has ever had...

I did not realize it, but looking at the wiki, it appears it is Mr. Taylor who plays on many / most of my favorite Stones songs.
Always thought it was Ron Wood.
 
I didn't even realize Mick Taylor played with the Stones, but, I have to admit, I didn't know of Mick Taylor by name until just now either.

Mick Taylor was great. The Taylor years (1969-1974) was when the Stones were at their zenith.

I going to try and listen to the albums made during that period. Maybe the guy in my front yard, with four horses, and rope, will go away...
