A good bass player makes the guitar player look better. If you've ever tried to play with a bass player that can't get in sync with a drummer you will know what I mean. Bass players and drummers are the butt of many jokers but they are the essence of a tight band. Anybody can wail away on lead and sound half decent if the bass and drums are tight.
