Yamaha in the House

Picked it up today. Still waiting for the Yamaha gig bag which I had to order from Amazon. I had a hard time setting it up when I got home. I lowered the action and adjusted the truss rod. Once I did this I could not intonate it. I finally figured out the strings were too close to the pickups. Raised the action a bit and it intonated perfectly. I spent the next two hours playing songs from our set list and setting up the tone for each song. It has a skinnier neck than my pbass. I love the way it feels, very easy to play fast licks. The active pickups give me the exact sound I was looking for. Very, very happy with this purchase. I even came out $100 ahead. I sold an Epiphone Swingster then traded in the Epiphone Thunderbird. Even with the gig bag I had $100 cash left. It still has the plastic on the controls that explain what each one does. I'm leaving it for now until I figure out the settings I use the most.

Not sure how I missed this thread, but congrats! That's a gorgeous boom boom maker ya got there. How do you like it a week in?
I’ve got two practices in so far. First one was no drums, into my Batallion DI then into a small PA. The two singers wanted to work on their harmonies and needed me to keep time. It sounded great. First full band practice last night. Took me a few songs to dial it in. I went from the DI to the PA and also to my Traynor SB110 for a monitor. The PA was easy but it took a while to get the Traynor dialed in. The active pickups have a way fuller sound. I had to backoff the bass and low mids a bit and increase the high mids and treble a smidge. So far I’m loving it. I’ll probably go back to flats on my Tokai pbass and use it for recording and the Yamaha with rounds for the band. My band members said it cuts through way better and they can hear my bass lines better. Don’t know if that is good or bad.

Got the Yamaha gig bag a couple of days ago. The two singers in the band get together Monday nights to work on harmonies. It’s fairly low volume with two acoustics into a Bose L1 PA. I loaded all my gear in the gig bag, Yamaha bass, EHX Batallion DI, Korg Pitchblack Poly tuner, XLR cable, guitar cable, 1 ft cable, power supply, and a couple of spare 9 volt batteries. One trip load out in one hand. For a full gig I would add another guitar cable and my Traynor SB110 amp for a monitor.
