Would you buy this Squire?

I have to tell you I like the Tele in the first video.

I really like it too, but Squires keep going up in price - as a %, they must have jumped up far more than Fender/Gibson USA prices in the last decade or so. They just don't seem the value they used to for the Classic Vibes.

Peavey..you just might be stunned...

I suspect, from reading the threads on here, that those damn ugly Peavey monstrosities that should all be burned at birth are actually very good guitars. :p

the Vintage Modified series, previously made in Indonesia, were excellent guitars for the price

I had a Bass Jaguar VM, and I liked it, better and cheaper than the Epi basses around the same price, imho. Some of the VMs have become better value than the CVs.

the Fender Modern Player Series

I've seen a few of those, but the specs have never quite been as I'd want - interesting guitars though, but they seem to be being phased out.

MIM necks are made in Cali with the MIA necks and shipped across the border.

I'm not sure that's entirely the case. From watching the recent Andertons Fender factory video, it seemed to me that the Fender fella almost gave away that a lot less USA parts are going onto the Mexican guitars than people are generally saying; some guitars such as the Worn series probably have quite a lot of USA parts on them, but I suspect that most have very few USA parts on them. I don't think Fender likes to give out the exact details, as they prefer a haze where people say/believe something that isn't quite right, but makes Fender look good, so they don't bother correcting it...

It's all just a marketing scam. Oh, the horror!

This has been the horrific BS at Fender recently - the marketing folk, who were always there, have completely taken over the guitar ranges and differentiation to maximize their profit which means less value for us, imho. The USA standards ("professionals", f'kin stoopid name...) come with some terrible appointments such as the basic tuners, just put the bloody vintage tuners on as a basic tuner or locking tuners, but instead they save them for higher spec models to "differentiate" them - the standard USA strat/tele should be a great guitar that you don't need to change anything. They've done the same with the entire range from Squire's to CS, and for a fender with all the appointments I'd like we're talking US$2000+, and that's just insane...

and what's the point of the 3 Way Switch on a single pickup single coil guitar

Tone circuit differences which date back to the very first guitars; quite interesting options that sound different.

just get an affinity and put a different pickguard on it -- they are very nice I have owned several

I know many folks have had good experiences with them, but my experiences with bullets and affinities has been shockingly bad - I'd much rather spend $100 more and get a VM. It's interesting how folks just see different things in guitars that interest them - not right or wrong, just different preferences; I suppose that's what makes this forum endlessly fascinating.

It's not a non sequitur when you didn't specify that it was a Telecaster you wouldn't buy for $450. A MIM Fender version of this is another 50% higher, new, and if we're comparing used prices you could obviously get a used Esquire Classic Vibe for probably $3-350 range.

OK, my fault for not specifying and saying "a" instead of "that" Tele. I thought it was understood that we were talking about a Tele based in the OP. But what I was saying still stands - I don't think that guitar represents very good value for the money. Either way, I wouldn't drop $450 on any Squire personally. Obviously a lot of people think differently but for me that 50% premium is well worth it.

The biggest problem I have had with inexpensive guitars is that I always seem to think "it's good for the money" and end up spending a lot more do make it serviceable. Would rather buy something from the start that I think to myself "this thing is freaking great" and leave alone.

I guess we just have differing opinions because I believe these are perfectly serviceable as is.

That's what is so great about choices. We've never had so many great options to choose from.

Hell, if the current Squires had been around when I started playing guitar in the mid-'70's the first few years of playing would have been a lot better than they were. Nothing but junk at the low end back then.
