So, the bandleader has this oddball Tele-style guitar with a maple neck and a Epiphone Explorer "hockey stick"headstock. He loves this guitar, but it sounds awful. The story is, he bought it at a pawn shop 15 years ago. He recently returned a borrowed Stratocaster, so he's back to using this relic again.
Last night, I set the intonation and that was a huge improvement, but my goodness! The frets! The first 7 have deep string grooves in them!
I'm confident I can level/crown them, but I'm not sure the bridge barrels will drop far enough to get good action!
He is also one of those dreaded "neck pickers," and he has worn the edges of the fretboard off at a 45 degree angle from around the 10th fret upwards.
This guitar needs CPR!
