Wood Switch Tips

I'm imagining the vast improvement of tone-to-the-bone is maybe even a little better than a Well-Hung strap, being closer to the signal chain :dood:

Neat idea... I think I might try this too sometime. I have a stash of moose shin bone somewhere around here, supposedly one of the highest density bones known to man,
mostly due to all that weight sitting on relatively skinny legs, as I understand it. Camel is supposed to be magnificent also.
I've used it to carve the odd nut out of... but dude was 100% correct about the wonderful aromas emitted while working with bone.

So, if a guy decided to make a few of these I wonder what sort of price they might command on the open market?

looking forward to your posts coming up!

Brass inserts are nice. Do you think maple will hold the tread? Otherwise, I will try bone.

I have tapped Bass wood for nylon wing bolts, then to harden the threads run a light film of thin CA. I have also used Brass threaded inserts as well. I think maple would hold a thread.

So here we go.

I cut an appropriate sized block of maple from the pen blank and marked it for drilling

I used a 9/64 bit in the drill press and marked for depth. I experimented with 5/32 bit before this, and it was too much. I read a no 29 bit is the perfect tool, but I do not have it yet.

I then ran the tap into it and kept the tap in for bulk shaping on the belt sander

I did some final shaping on a hard surface

It was not easy to get it off the tap. I had to put the tap in a vise and use pliers. This made me nervous that I would crush or crack the wood

And then ran the bottom over the paper to get it flat

That is nice work. I think you can at least that good! Those inserts can be found for about $ 1 each, or less in bulk (250)
Yea, once the basement gets finished, I’ll try my hand at making a few of these. Heck, that’s what I built a shop for !

Not sure if I’d buy the bulk pack, because then I’d feel like I have to make 250 guitars :pound-hand:
