Winter

I moved from Philly to UNH for grad school (New Hampshire). I visited the summer before to check it out. I brought heavy shirts and sweaters. The students were sunning themselves in shorts and bikinis.

It's raining in Philly. Thank God for global warming.

I live in Norway, so that means we should have lots of snow in winter, right? Not so. It has been pissing down for the last week. We had a light snowfall the morning of Christmas eve, but by Christmas day it had already been washed away. And it has pretty much been raining since. And for as long as I can remember we have had rain and lots of wind on New year’s Eve while I have been living in Bergen. We are expecting shwowers, 8 °C and a full force gale this evening. Setting of the fireworks tonight will be SO much fun...

Funny, Death Valley is becomming cooler and global warming is lauded as the culprit.
Which would be why the climate scientist started calling it Climate Change rather than global warming. Yes. Overall average temperature globally is inching up at a faster pace than it should be. But the side effect of that is that some places are actually seeing colder temps. Doesn’t make sense…. But that’s the science.

I'm confused by your comment. That article didn't talk about DV becoming cooler, but the rest of the world getting closer to DV's temperatures as a norm. :/

I just glanced over the article in general, but that was my takeaway. DV has actually been much cooler this summer, FWIW.

I seriously doubt you'll see non DV temps become the "norm" as there are significant geographic causations for the DV region to have its elevated temperatures.

Funny that the greatest extremes in climatic conditions are in our past...

Your government believes that you can.pay a tax that will magically reverse atmospheric conditions.

I am skeptical of this sorcerery.

I totally agree!

They can dump billions of dollars into it, it won't change a thing, except make the poorer poorer and the rich richer. We will not make a dent in climate change..

Our Government here does the same thing, just keep taxing us to death, Its called carbon tax...(n)

The jet stream has changed enough due to climate change that we only get winter for a few weeks around the end of January or February. It will be around 57 tomorrow in Boston. It was in the low fifties today. It was cold earlier in the week, but there's a deep enough dip in the jet stream, the cold weather stays in the mid west. We used to have winter from Halloween until St. Paddy's day. Now, New England is a rain forest in the winter. It's almost desert like in the summer now, so good thing that it at least rains in the winter. We don't get the gradual melting of snow to replenish the water table, but at least there are full rivers to refill the reservoirs.

Been weird here in NE Illinois as well. Maybe not like yours…. 10 days ago we had a -17 temperature and near -40 wind chill. Today mid 50s. What snow we had is all melted. But have no fear. Jan/Feb will give us its share of winter.

As a kid in western Illinois winter was more a December/January thing. Cold and snow. Then February it started heading the other direction.

The way it rains here now in the winter, I'm glad that it's too warm to snow. Last week we may have had two feet or more of the stuff. If it was like it was in Buffalo the past month, we'd have several feet by now.
