There was a time I really wanted to go. It seemed like a wonderland of toys.
However, after watching an insider video and paying closer attention after, it seems that it would be too loud, crowded, and difficult to hear yourself think. I guess that is the nature of a trade show, but when it includes amplifiers and musicians competing for attention, that spells trouble. I will take a permanent pass.
I have no clue if the Summer NAMM is any different, but I had a great time at the '09 Winter NAMM. Winter NAMM runs from a Thursday through Sunday. When we went, we spent the whole day on a Saturday there, and a half day on Sunday. We could have easily spent 3 full days there, and not see and experience everything the trade show had to offer.
Yes it was crowded in certain areas but you could still move around and sample most of the goodies... talk to the head honchos... meet and BS with top musicians and celebrities... experience many live performances within the showroom floors... sit in on numerous educational classes... and drool all over yourself from the overwhelming number of beautiful ladies...

.
Its definitely noisy, but not excessive. NAMM is very restrictive on excessive noise from the participating merchants, and the Decibel Police are patrolling in force. The live performances are usually held in separate enclosed rooms... big rooms! Or outdoors within the facility.
Then after a full day of being over stimulated by what you saw, touched, and smelled... there's the night time entertainment at the adjoining major hotels that have multiple humongous banquet rooms that are setup for concerts. By now it's about 8 to 9 PM, and I was blown away by the thousands of freaky looking night crawlers (musicians in stage clothing and incredible looking hotties) that are waiting to get into the after-show shows.
BTW... Our passes with badges that acknowledge our local guitar shop, were free for us and the guitar shop, because they are a registered member of NAMM.
It's been ten years since that one and only time that I've been there, and I would like to go again. But I would have to get invited by a member of NAMM. Maybe for 2021 ...
