Whos geting snow tomorrow Thursday

Bocc69 what is a ice dam ?? are those ice cicles that hang from the roof ??? i remember when i was a kid the ice cicles on my grandparents old house that was built like a shack were 3 feet long or more hanging down like daggers

An ice dam, is when the snow on the roof melts at the lower edge, then forms ice as it refreezes. It prevents the melt from getting to the gutter, and more and more ice builds up.

The issue is, as the melt continues the water has to go somewhere....it will find a place to go, but nowhere good. I had my wood floor buckle a few years back after a major storm.. Fortunately the floor flattened as it dried.

There are many reasons these dams form. Maybe a poor angle. Or, If you don't have proper insulation, and it creates hot spots on the roof, which melts snow, and then the ice begins etc.

Add to this, more snow storms, and you have big issues. It's been snowing every other day here.

That's basically an ice dam. I use a roof rake to get the snow cleared from the gutter, but it ain't easy. I did it today, and there is ice forming already. Argggg!

The battle continues.

Wow! And I was complaining it was too hot here with full sunshine and 87f. An old PD buddy drove down to visit for a day's shooting on my range. Running around in that heat in the woods got down right uncomfortable. We were both sweating like hogs in summer!
When I went back inside I had to turn on the A.C. to cool the house down. It was hot!

I hope everyone involved made it through ok!
The second thing I did after getting kicked out of work by the owner during the blizzard, and shoveling out the driveway, was to fire up the grill, and cook up a couple of steaks...:D

image.jpeg Bring it on winter!!!
We had around 14 inches of snow with lots of drifting, blowing, snow. I had places with snow 24-30 inches deep, and other places with 6-10 inches...good times in Southern New England!(good eats too...at least at my place:cool:)
