Who Is Using Audacity?

I use it some. Every recording I have on Sound Cloud, with the exception of the composition made by my autistic son, was done with Audacity. It works for what I need and gives me some good, basic editing tools.

But, I would imagine there are other, more fully-featured, audio programs to use. You'd have to pay for them, but it may be worth it.

Thanks for the insight, Smitty. My oldest son is a IT manager for a school district, so I really depend on him for his experience and suggestions.

He put a couple of different recording platforms in this PC - one of which I know is Audacity - but can't recall the other two...so I'm hoping to have it all setup soon so I can start capturing my ideas and recording.

Audacity is a pretty decent program, but a lot will depend on your PC's processing capabilities. For example, I recently tried making a click track with it. That worked fine. But, then when I went to play the click track and record simultaneously, there was some lagginess to the response. This is not the fault of Audacity...it's the fault of my machine. So, just keep that in mind.

Gotcha...we have a pretty fast processor and sound card, so I think we will be OK.

I have it on my Lenovo and it is complicated for me. I use Garage Band over Audacity not that it is better but I can move my stuff to a CD or send to my friend in NYC. I don't know how to get songs off of these programs.

anything I have recorded was on it ---- thats like all 6 noodlings of various crap levels......the software is great ---almost makes my playing tolerable----ALMOST----its not MAGIC for Criminy sakes

I have been using Audacity for years and love it. I have used it to create radio commercials and for laying down multiple music tracks including one track where Don P and I played together in an intercontinental jam.

Do you have multiple hard drives?
How are you hard drive(s) configured?
I know that this question was not directed at me, but... I have a 3TB hard drive for the operating system, a 6 TB internal hard drive for my files and 5 TB external hard drive for backing up critical files and a few 1TB drives that I use like most people would use a flash drive. I'm also running 32GB of memory.

Nice!
The most important part for audio file recording is good write speed. If you’re writing audio files on the same drive that is running the operating system, DAW, effects, audio drivers, virtual instruments etc... the functional ceiling decreases quickly.
Also, any external drive used to write audio at real-time(not just backing up files)should have a nice open fast pathway... I used to like FireWire, at least, for that...there’s too much to go in to to cover, but the root drive configuration is one of the most important components of a good audio computer.
