Who Here Plays Acoustic and Who Doesn't Even Own One?

I'm currently only playing my PRS and plan to sell everything else.

I was considering using the money to buy an acoustic because I don't own one.

Who here plays one and who doesn't even own one?

Everyone give me your thoughts and experiences to have one or not waste the money...

I have one within reach of me as I type…



It’s my Mexi-Martin with the plywood neck, and countertop fretboard, body, and bridge. It does have a spruce top though….
It plays fantastically, so I don’t much care what it’s made of.

I also have an old Korean Fender laying around…I’ve had it since the early/mid 90s…it’s a bit flamy…

I have one that I used to keep in my office in the days before I started working from home. Its been in the closet unplayed and unloved for about 2 years now. I really don't have any need for an acoustic anymore and should probably sell it.

I have 5, only really play maybe 2/3 of them. I like an acoustic a lot for a different sound but play an electric 10:1 more. If im playing one? The bigger body the better. Smaller ones well, sound small, like a kids guitar to me. Bigger bodies have a deeper, booming sound.

I play these two the most
2005 Washburn WD32SCE acoustic electric

1982 Takamine EF381R Acoustic Electric

But i also play this one a bit
1978 Aria Pro II Pw-40 Brazilian

I rarely play these two
1996 Yamaha FG401

1998 Samick Lw-028AK Nylon string



I only have a couple videos using one and it happens to be the Washburn

Own two, and don't play anything a lot:
2008 Martin HD-28 and a Taylor GS Mini (Mahogany). No electrics in either one of them. I love the sound of an acoustic guitar.

If your strictly playing electrics, then it's going to be a serious challenge to get comfortable on an acoustic. The necks on the Taylor's are pretty friendly to dedicated electric guitar players.

I think you should find an acoustic to borrow or demo for a while, and then make a decision whether it's worth it to you. Just make sure that the acoustic is set up well, fir obvious reasons.

If you sing and play guitar I find it easier with an acoustic. You can feel the vibration against your body which helps with staying in tune. You can also strum cowboy chords which is way easier than playing electric while singing. Electric’s require more thinking while playing.

I bought one to play it for one of my best friends wedding, I had to learn a soft finger picking song for them to walk to and from the alter.

I gave it away the very next week.
I pick one up in class once in awhile.... Just not my thing at all.

I have one but don’t play it often (this wasn’t a poll choice). It’s a 1977 Takamine 6 within reach in the studio. Had a friend over a few weeks ago and played it for a while.

Have a Takamine and it's in the closet. Doesn't help that it's kinda beat up and doesn't play very well anymore. I almost never play it.

It's a somewhat crappy Yamaha. Like about a $300 guitar when it was new about 15 years ago.
