So...my wife may buy me a new guitar because I've been practicing so much and she is impressed! It's going to be an SG, but which one?

Gibson SG Standard in Black @ $1500

SG Modern for me. Now that they have a normal nut on those they are very desireable to me...it's a perfect combination of old and new features IMO.

It's nice when your wife "rewards" you with one. My wife surprised me with a Firebird a few years ago and it was an awesome surprise.

The Standard would be my second choice, and a really great bargain to boot. I don't like those sideways wank bars at all (they do have the other version with a Maestro which I find to be superior) but they look cool.
Overall that Modern is unique and seems to be a really attractive package.

Chris, I think it's the Standard in the soft case/bag. The Modern is listed with a hard case both on the Gibson site and online retailers like Sweetwater.

Agree with you on the ebony BTW.

The guitar is not hanging on the wall at a local shop it's coming from the factory or warehouse. Everything is guaranteed and returnable for 45 days. I've had no issues from Guitar Center personally and they just gave me a $250 discount and free shipping to my local store...so yes I DID IT!

Gibson web site and a couple others show Hard Case. Guitar Center and Musicians Friend show Gig Bag. When I pick it up if it's not in a Hard Case I'm going to ask to return it on the spot. I'm guessing a Hard Case will appear...

Good call on that. GC/MF used to pull that crap, where they would sell guitars that came from the factory with a hard case without it and try to get you to pay extra for one, but I thought they had stopped that deceptive practice. Hopefully they don't jerk you around on it, that's going to be one hell of a nice guitar. Congrats.

Well, if they jerk me around they will have to find another buyer...I hope they don't try and play me because I really want the guitar! I'll just have to go to Sam Ash or Sweetwater if they balk! The discount would buy a case though...and I got $100 in Gear Points...
