Both sounded pretty good. The first sounded more SGish and the second more LPish, but pretty hot/driven (498T through Marshall ish...). Yeah, the first puppies did seem to have more character/articulation, but I recon that changing amp settings would bring the second guitar to life.
I like all three of these puppies; 490 in the neck has great attack, the 498T is much better than a 490T or even a 57, imho, for rock music, and the AY has really nice tone although I believe it's not that hot, maybe 11k, so it works well in the bridge or really fiery in the neck - kinda like a hotter but still sweet 57 rather than a 498T's thump and power.
I have the 490R/498T in my black 2008 Gibson LP Studio and I really like the 498T in the bridge position. It has a lot of sizzle to it & meaty sounding. I think it's Gibson's hottest non-signature pick. The AY (Angus Young) pup is just a bit hotter.
