Where are the deals on electric guitar strings?

I broke a string on my Flying V today and couldn't find any packs of strings in my cases. So I am online looking for replacements. I usually use Ernie Ball .10-46. Have used GHS, DR, D'Addario...

Thanks, bdon, Lo and behold, believe it or not, the first thing I did after I woke to pee was stare at the PRS soft gig bag case that my Santana SE is in and say to myself, " I didn't look in that case pocket."

Well well well, What do I find but 2 packs of Boomer .10'-.46's and 2 packs of Dean Markley Signature Series Electrics .10-.46

I don’t really have any close except for a couple small mom and pop stores. I’ve checked both out. Two to three times per set over what I can buy from Sweetwater. Love to support the little guy…. But not for that cost discrepancy.

I just get em from my local dealer too, they sell swingin singles too. Support local biz.

We don't talk names, just money and merchandise. You buy too many they'll think you're dealing too.
If the cops show up flush those strings! :D

Jethro, I definitely spread the wealth. I have gotten strings, multiple guitars, pedals, cases, cords, mic's, straps, multiple basses, bits and pieces of hardware, drums and cymbals, and tons more from my local mom and pop shop, pawn shops, 2nd hand gear stores,, Mars Music and Guitar Center, Sweetwater, Sam Ash, Reverb, Ebay, private sellers and tons more sources. The ratio of stuff bought from the " little guy" is probably 80% small guy to 20% big corps.

Oh I get it no judging here. Many places have no store to go to. So not much choice

I had thought the same about picking up strings at my local mom n pop shop today too. But, my favorite one is 1 hr drive from me now, and I had a funeral to go to today. Good thing I found at least 4 packs of strings I had on hand. I can make a trip to see my pal the store owner when I get back from our trip to Ohio in the AM.

I get it. I'm fortunately about 15 min from a rather large Long and McQuade (we have 2 here) who has access to anything from any of their stores, our large national chain.
 
It always surprises me when someone doesn't have a favorite brand and will go for the "best deal" for strings. I've been playing D'addario since 1985. I've tried them all but I always go back to D'addario. They last, they sound great and feel right, anything else is a compromise. I could easily be talking about a different brand, it's just that D'addario are the ones that did it for me way back in the beginning and they will always be my go to, no matter what they cost. I do try to stock up when I find a good deal on sale, but I will buy them regardless.

I get it, Steve. When I first got back into playing, a buddy saved me a sweet 1990 Strat at his pawn shop. He set me up with DR strings.
When I began playing SG's and LP, I switched to Ernie Ball's and mostly used them. The more guitars I began to accumulate, I bought bulk deals on the EB's if I could get them. Occasionally I would either like a change or wound up with strings a buddy gave me or might have come with a new used guitar I bought. This is how I remember getting the Boomers, to give a little change to my regular routine.
 
When it comes to my acoustic I'm fussy. For decades I on;y used Martin Marquis .013 stings. My youngest borrowed the guitar while we was in college and when it was time to restring, he used .012 Elixer strings. After I "repossessed" the guitar so I could use it for worship team, when the time came I stuck a set of Martin's on. Only lasted a month or so before losing tone. Figured what the heck, might as well try the Elixer's. That was about 20 years ago and today that's all I'll use on the acoustic.

The electric guitars since I don't have to change as often as many of you, simply because I don't play them as often or as long at a time. I don't gig with them. I get months to a year out of a set of electric strings so cost is no big deal for me. I'll buy a three pack each of .009s or .010s which will last several years. Looks like the last sets I've purchased were either EB or GHS strings. I am considering trying a set of Elixer electric strings next time.
 
I always give my local shop first crack at selling me strings. Usually the only ones he has that I like are the Martin strings for my acoustic. I used to buy Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys from him, but I prefer the Nickel Rock and Roll Slinkys which he doesn't carry. I prefer the sound of the pure nickel over the regular Slinkys. That's why I'm using Pyramids now. They sound better to me, and stay in tune pretty well.

Most of my strings come from Strings By Mail whenever I get an email notification about a sale and/or free shipping. No one locally carries Pyramid, Elixr, or LaBella strings which are what I use for most of my guitars. They also carry the John Pearse strings that National recommends for my Reso-Lectric. They also carry the RotoSound bass strings that I like as well as Ukulele and Mandolin strings. One stop shopping when they run a good sale.
