So, the last few weeks have been the most trying time in my life. It's resulted in me not even touching a guitar or paying any attention to music.
At the beginning of the month, my wife was in three different hospitals in a single weekend. I took her to one hospital on a Friday night, she was airlifted to another the next day, and then airlifted to another the day after that.
While at the second hospital, she took a serious turn for the worse and the doctor told me that my wife "is actively dying." Yes. Those were his words, and he went on to say that she had minutes to hours to live. That was literally the scariest time of my life. At that point she was too unstable to move. Miraculously, by the next morning she had stabilized enough to airlift to the third hospital where emergency open-heart surgery was performed.
She is finally home and is recovering. Prior to being released, they trained me to administer meds through her PICC line.
The actual problem was that she had, unbeknownst to us, a congenital heart defect known as a bicuspid aortic valve, which was complicated by the fact that she had an infection on the valve. So, she had a heart valve replacement and the medication I'm giving her is an antibiotic to fight the infection, which turned out to be Strep B.
I have just now pulled out my guitar to work on some songs for an upcoming show. Fortunately, it's a ways off. But, I gotta tell you...it feels weird to play again. I went so long without playing that I actually started to lose my callouses on my fingertips.
So, yeah...I've been gone for awhile. Things have been a little busy.
My attitude has changed about things.
