For comparison, here’s Hüsker Dü‘s visceral version. Grant Hart‘s drumming is amazing, and the intensity of Bob Mould‘s guitar and singing makes this cover a force that Roger McGuinn probably never imagined. My guess is that he probably loved it, as he had been on record in interviews saying he wished that the original version of “So You Want To Be A Rock And Roll Star” was as heavy as Patti Smith’s version.


 
In the 80s, our motto was “too much reverb is just about enough.”
Another school of thought is: When it sounds like you've applied the right amount of reverb or delay to your ears....dial it down by 5 or 10%.

I have difficulty listening to instrumental music that is super saturated with excessive amounts of reverb or delay because as the last few notes of a guitar phrase (for example) are echoing out succeeding notes are trampling all over and competing for sonic space.
