What's this thing do?

Is that a glass pack?
It is not. This is a glass pack. A faux muffler stuffed with fiberglass. I had a couple on one car I had. The fiberglass all burned out about the second time I drove the car, at which point I was running straight pipes. That was was the loudest car I've owned. Funny story on that one. I had that car when my future bride and I were dating. I'd idle past her house late evening and she always knew it was me because her bedroom windows vibrated with the noise.

The piece I posted was advertised as a "Test Pipe" since legally it could not be branded as a Catalytic Converter Eliminator.

Close Don. Catalytic Converter Eliminator.

They could cause more problems than they supposedly fixed. The big mantra was that eliminating the catalytic converter reduced back pressure. I knew people back in the day who tried them and regretted it because their performance and fuel economy actually declined afterwards.

Turns out the engineers at the vehicle manufacturers weren't so dumb and they actually designed the cars to work with the converters. Imagine that.

Eventually, yes you are correct. In 1977 they were brand new and engineers hadn't figured things out yet. Those very first ones were mostly just slapped on and shipped. Still a work in progress. While maybe it didn't really help my car.... it certainly didn't hurt anything either. By my next new car there was zero reason to remove it as the entire system by then had been totally redesigned from the fan blade to the exhaust tip to work as a system.

When I was looking downstairs, I couldn't find all my drum brake tools. Have the nice Snap-On scissor type tool for the springs, and other stuff. I'm sure they're in a box somewhere...:pound-hand:

I know where the degree wheels are, but didn't think they were photo worthy.

Here are some other goodies. I was looking for a fresh matchbook to see if anyone knew the connection between that and a set of points.

On my CZ it was a zig zag paper wrapper, same as a matchbook, for the automobiles, I had a set of feeler gauges, and the elbow wrench for fine tuning
