What's happening to my nut?!

uhm-----
1 -- GIBSON NEVER HAS ANY ISSUES OR PROBLEMS --- PLEASE REMOVE THESE PICTURES BEFORE GBALL SEES THEM -- he might faint--

2. it "looks" from across the country here-- that the nut has separated a tad and the finish was OVER the nut -- and its like a "finishing crack" --

Or --- your headstock is about to fall off--- and you should loosen the strings and put it in a case and never mention it again................................

or remove it and clean it up and replaces it (like Mitch says) with a LITTLE elmers and a LIGHT clamp (not a tight one or the headstock will fall off)

and ----- did I mention the headstock will fall off------

WAIT-0--

better Idea -- SEND IT TO ME ill fix it ;)

when or if you re glue it put the dab of glue on the end of the fret board side and not the underneath of the nut .Reason for this is if you have to take it off you wont take a chunk of wood out of the neck when you nock it loose.Obvisouly they painted over the end of the nut. Glue prolly just came loose.

If you take the strings off, does the nut feel like it’s coming loose, or does it still seem like it’s solidly in place?

This could just be some finish cracking.
I can't honestly say; LRT has been using this guitar for a couple months. I do know it had a string change recently, but I believe he changed them one at a time, and he said he didn't notice any looseness at the time. Is finish cracking something to be alarmed about? Of all the guitars I own, I have only seen this once, and it was a new guitar so I sent it right back for a replacement.

not really-- (at least to me) but then I have gutiars with 1/4 inch DIVITS hunked out of them -- and worse-- so what do I know--
this is the G3 Gibson Bass.....still plays and works just fine -----

Ive had wilshires and a SONEX 180 with a finish crack down both sides of the neck at the nut--- (and weird gouge where my CAT bit the neck) -- yes cat---
dont play no different.....

Temperature and/or humidity changes will effect the nut material differently than the surrounding wood. The overlapping finish looks to have given up at the join.
I’ll echo @JohnnyGoo ...a drop of glue at the face of the nut that butts up to the end of the fretboard, if it’s necessary at all.
This guitar hasn't left the jam room in several months....I would think that drastic and immediate changes in temp/humidity would do something like this....but I don't think it's seen anything too crazy for some time...is it common to see finish fractures around nuts like this?
