The first guitar that I purchased myself was a ‘76 or ‘77 Gibson Les Paul Custom in Cherry Red with Silver hardware.
I was probably 17 years old and I had to get my Mom to co-sign for my first bank loan to buy it. I remember it cost me $700 (more than I paid for my first car) and I never missed a payment. I kept that guitar for over 30 years and used it in 4 bands.
Before that guitar, my Dad bought me a Japanese Stratocaster-like guitar for a Christmas present when I was 12 years old. I never could find another one like that guitar on the internet and I don’t recall the make.
My first Les Paul Custom.
Years later and the same Les Paul Custom.
And my first electric.
