Malcolm Young (I think he got overshadowed by his brother)
Jeff Healey (He was freakin amazing, even if he werent blind)

Angus has been interviewed and in more than one interview has flat stated Malcolm was the better guitar player. Said Mal could play his leads but he (Angus) could never do what Mal does.

As crazy as it sounds, Alex Lifeson. He is, IMO, as talented as any of the greats of the rock era but was somehow overshadowed by his band mates.
He is as, or more, responsible for my wanting to pick up a guitar as any other player.
Also Andy McCoy (Hanoi Rocks). That dude has chops to spare and played things that sounded impossible all the time.

Like was said, often overshadowed by others in a commercially successful / popular band.
Some great players never got the big Van Halen type commercial success - Michael Schenker.
I don't think he is underrated by guitar players, as opposed to not being as well known by the general rock music fan.
Prince - his success as a writer / performer overshadows his guitar skills, maybe by design.

And it’s a subjective/objective (can never remember which is the correct term) thing. A guitarist I may think is “underrated” someone else here is going to think “overrated.”
Richrath is a great example of that. I’ve heard people claim him to be one of the most overrated rock guitarist ever…. And yet I’ve always felt he never got the acclaim he deserved.

I cant believe Kirk Hammett is on this list. Underrated?? Hardly!
Some might even say his wah pedal addicted ways make him overrated.
I personally dont think of him as underrated or overrated. He just is.
John 5 is on the list. I agree with that.
