What is your definition of a Musician

I consider myself a guitar player, a Musician to me is one who can read music and write, can play multiple Instruments.

Too narrow a definition for me. Many of my favorite musicians can't read a note or play more than their chosen instrument (and I wouldn't expect someone like Yo Yo Ma to be adept at anything other than cello; you have to really bear down on one thing to be that good at it). No, to me, it's someone/anyone that creates music. No matter what form that music takes.

Someone who crams 10 grand worth of gear into a 1500.00 van to drive 3 hours to play a gig that he makes (after splitting it with the band) about 50.00 ....before fuel....and beer.......

THATS a musician.

What about the Taxes?:D

Musician: anyone who makes an instrument sound good to anyone else and can do it at least for a minute and call it a “song” or “piece”.

Wow! I write songs, play several instruments (guitar, bass, drums, jews harp) and sing. I didn't say I was good at any of those skills though. I also can read tablature ( a form of music notation).

I guess I am a musician!
NEAT!

If you can make any music, covered or your own, you are a musician.

If you play to other people and get paid for it, be it for a living or just to pay for the strings and beer, you are a professional musician.

Whether you're good, bad, big time or just a bum with a cheap acoustic sitting on a sidewalk.

Period.

Someone who can be focused and involved in a meaningful conversation with those around them and at the same time casually and effortlessly play their chosen instrument.
