What guitar strings do you hate?

You guys are lucky to have all kinds of strings available.

I use pretty much whatever I find in the next store, I often have to choose between domestic brands and imported Daddarios, Ernies and Elixirs, the latter ones being awfully expensive. Considering that I gig often, and can't keep my three guitars strung for long (and risk string breakage onstage, which is a BITCH when your guitars have floating bridges), strings can be a real expense even if you're not exactly poor.

I go with the cheaper ones and save the US stuff for gigs.

I don't understand why you want to work so hard. Some get tone comes from very light strings. ZZ Top and BB King told Billy Gibons not to work so hard. I am plain flat lucky I found 8s years back. I do the light strings for a medical reason. Now 7s get me on stage to play a little more. I no longer have the strength in my hands. The people I work with did not know I went from 10s to 7s over a time of 4 years. My tone is the same and my solos are to stand up for. My bass player picked up my guitar and she said you have something on your strings! No it's just new strings babe. She lives will me and never knew. As long as the place is full, that is what matters. I buy strings for a 12 string that comes in 9s and put them on my Martin D28 and it still roars. I don't miss 10s or 12s or other stuff that makes it hard to play.
 
Back to bathing suits, I love to see tan lines! I'm the only person that gets to see them that night.
I hate tanning booths. White untaned breaths with tan all around is very beautiful.
 
I thought I liked the Elixir coated strings for about a minute...then they became the strings I like least.

My current favorites are Gibson Vintage Reissue 10's and I even have a set of 11's on my only Les Paul...

I also thought I liked those Rev Willy 7's and 8's but the love affair faded fast...

That's cool. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that I think only 10s are ok.

It 's me, I can't deal with the fret buzz and the marijuanalooseness of lighter gauges. It just feels wrong to me, to my hands, though I can't stand heavier stuff either. To me 10s are perfect.
 
I don't like expensive strings. I like D'addario the best and if I don't use those I use Musicains Gear strings (for electric) from MusiciansFriend. I generally play 10's on both electric and acoustic.

What I noticed first that you have such extreme control over bends. I do a bit of signature at the end of my songs, a D string bit of a wiggle. The other strings won't allow that. I have been very happy with Ernie Ball strings for a number of years. I have tried most and if an expensive brand proved better I would go with them. I really get annoyed when I get strings all loose and the ball is how I have to pick the correct string. I buy new strings, I don't want to look at their balls.

Dunno been so long since i had any ------ I mean liek DECADES--- I really dont remember----I went to these for years......

they where the 'start up locals' back int eh day in Ohio'
They are actually quite good and they include an EXTRA HIGH E in every pack ;) ---though I dont break strings anymore back in the "day" that was a nice touch

The dullness depends, in large part, on the guitar, itself. Taylor guitars benefit greatly from coated strings. They come with Elixirs. On my first string change after I got my Taylor, I decided to save some money and use D'Addario phosphor bronze strings, like I had used on my Ovation. On the Taylor those strings sounded horribly harsh and brittle. I went back to the music store within 15 minutes and bought Elixirs. I've stuck with them on my Taylor, ever since.

On a guitar like my Ovation, coated strings very well may sound dull. But, I haven't actually tested it.

Getting to the title of the thread, however, I don't have any strings I "hate", per se. I will say there are some strings I don't like for some of my guitars; I have different brands and types on different guitars.

I had a deal on Dean Markley strings. I had 30 packs of them and gave 28 packs away. I got many back for Christmas. They bounced back and forth around the holidays for a couple years.
