What gauge of strings

I played 9's for like the first 20 years I played. I switched to 10's after getting a free case of strings, and then used them for the next 20-ish years, without questioning either why I stayed with them or if they were preferable. I was probably lazy and just didn't want to set my guitars up again, haha. Well, 4 or 5 years ago I tried 9's again and it was like a revelation: they feel better, sound better, have a tighter low end, let me play with a lighter touch, are more dynamic, tear my fingers up less, and did I mention they sound better? Honestly I find myself wishing I had never stuck with the 10's all those years, because switching back to 9's has actually improved my playing.

I used D'Addario XL110s for more than forty years. Great sounding and quite consistent - very few defects over the decades.
My 65 year old fingers aren't as strong as they used to be, especially now that I'm not playing several hours every day.
Am in the process of stepping down: .009s on 25½" scale guitars and .0095s for 25" PRSs and all the 24¾" ones.

I have been using D'Addario's since I started 10-46 Nickel wound, and have stayed with them. I tried 9-42s were to light for me high E sounded tinny and did not like the feel eithier, I tried Boomers and Ernie Ball, definately didn't like eithier one. So far tried and true for me D'Addario all the way. The 10-46s are great for sustain and heavy picking, great for distorsion, and just super for down tuning.

I use kind of a customized set. It starts with a GHS GBXL 9-42 set. Then, I change the .011 second string with a .012 string and I swap the .016 plain third string with a .018 wound third.

On my Gretsch, I use a GHS set of 10-46 with a wound third. The Gretsch has a Bigsby and I’ve found that a Bigsby needs a certain amount of tension on it to provide better tuning stability. That’s kind of how coil springs work. They need to be compressed to a certain point to get to their consistent deflection. It’s called the load deflection curve. Deflection is not linear at low loads. A 9-42 set doesn’t put quite the tension on it that it needs. Plus, with a set that light, the bar would scrape the surface of the guitar when I swing it to the rear of the guitar.

My only problem with ddarrios is that I keep breaking them. I typically use thick picks and really attack the strings when I’m doing rythym work. Otherwise they sound and feel good, I’ll never knock them, they just typically don’t last anymore than a few weeks with me. Earnie ball paradigms I’ve abused the absolute crap out of and typically I have even a really hard time knocking them out of tune let alone breaking a string.

I've tried everything from very light, angel hair pasta sized 8gauges to upwards of 11s over the years.

I settled on 10-52s as my personal favorites these last 7 years or so. Really a hybrid gauge having strings 1-3 regular 10s but strings 4-6 roughly 11s. You still can bend your high strings the same but got a lot more bottom and booming sound on the low strings, really great if you're detuning any.

Brand wise? Was a sucker for D'addario XLs forever, then switched to their NYXLs. Great strings and still like them. But i switched a few months ago to Ernie Ball Paradigms and it's like keeping a fresh set of strings all the time, without any of that polymer/deadening sound crap from Elixirs. Really like those ones

Exactly!!!!!

For the most part, I only use Pyramid strings.

The electrics(except Strats) get .010" - .046"

Strats get the Hendrix set, .010" - .038"

Rick 12 string gets .009" - .042"

Acoustics get Elixr Nanweb .011" - .052

Arch top gets LaBella Silver plated .011" - .052"

Dobro gets Elixr Electric .011" - .049"

I used D'Addario 10-46. Still use It sometimes. I use Elixir 10-46 on electric guitars because I think they are better for not wearing down the frets so much. I like D'Addario but It worn quicly. I love them when they are new.

Im guessing you're asking what gauge strings for classical guitars on which case, the standard is 28-43. but classical guitars is not in my wheelhouse so other than that, i really don't know, if you downtune on it then go a bit thicker
