What did you learn from the one week challenge?

I will go on record as saying I think you all might agree how I am an odd duck playing wise.
I have had Fenders, Gib/EPI, and PRS guitars. I flat out do not notice scale length differences either when fretting or when bending.

And if I did, I actually thought it felt as if Strat strings were easier for me to bend than my Gib 24.75 ones. Go figure.


PS. I never played one, but I do know a Byrdland has a 23.5 scale length. I might just notice the difference if I played a Strat or PRS and then quickly switched to a Byrdland

I don't think that's so odd. I really don't notice much of a difference either. I switch between both [scale lengths] often, and to me any difference in feel is negligible.

However, when it comes to sound, nothing beats the Tele.

I notice more of a difference going from a Les Paul to an SG than from a Fender to a Gibson scale. For me it more about where the neck is positioned relative to my body than how far apart the frets are. My GS-Mini has a 23” scale. I notice that it is different but it doesn’t bother me. A bass, now that requires an adjustment.

My week isn't up yet but... If I could only have one guitar, Deathtrap would be it. They got everything right in the Fender factory on that day in 1977.

The playwear and the fact that it's been left unmodified and only repaired for more than 40 years must be a testament to that...

My only issue is but width, if it is less than 1-5/8’s I am not going to be able to finger most open chords without a flub, as far as scale length,,, I really never paid any attention to it, until I joined here and seen the debates over it.
I can bend the strings just fine but I am not much of a lead player to begin with.

Im with Mitch -- tiny/narrow necks are for shredding -- wide necks for chords 12 strings hold zero draw for me (I cant handle 6 most the time) ....4 is more the sweet spot

The neck on my mandolin makes yours look huge! I have no idea why they made it so narrow...

Yeah, my old (Mum's) Neapolitan mandolin was tiny. The A style isn't a lot bigger, maybe an inch at the nut, the mandola is a bit bigger. You'll be absolutely amazed to know that I've never measured them .

Add a twelve string in there. I frequently switch between mandolin, bass guitar electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and twelve string. The mandolin was the hardest to get used to at first but now switching between them just seems normal.
