What Are You Doing Right Now?

On the road for work this week again. Started today in Milford, NH and actually finished early in the day. My next destination was White River Junction, VT. They wanted me to stay overnight so I could be at the customer early tomorrow.

Between Milford and WRJ is Keene, NH and my favorite used guitar store. Spent a couple of hours at Retro Music gabbing with Jeff and Doogle. Even though I played a nice older refinish ES-175, I walked out without spending any money, even though I was very, very tempted.

Last week we spent a few days in Charleston SC. While there we thought we'd check out the USS Yorktown. CV-10. It was pretty cool. One take away.... those WW2 Fighter planes are bigger than one realizes. Another.... standing at the stern and looking 900 feet to the bow. Impressive!!

In the Hanger deck there were several planes. One being a B25 similar to what flew off the USS Hornet early in 1942. Doolittle's Raiders.

Relaxing, and getting myself into Island Time. Enjoying palm trees, warm weather, getting my toes in the sand, and sampling Mai-Tais at various bars around Waikiki Beach. Signed up for surfing lessons tomorrow morning.

So…I’ve had these little guys pumping out the sound for my home theater setup for a while. As you could imagine, they sound pretty crisp and clear. They’ve been a good alternative to the big rig stuff for everyday TV/movie watching. However, they just don’t kick you in the gut for the bigger soundtracks that are in many movies etc…

So…I finally broke down and got a small powered sub to pick up the low end slack. I was afraid it would be a bit underwhelming, since it was a fairly inexpensive and small sub. It was supposed to be well paired with the PreSonus Eris 3.5 and up to the midsized Eris monitors. My JBLs fall into this class, so I had hopes that they would mate up well…well…they do so far. From a few samples of movies, music, and TV so far…

The PreSonus Eris Sub8bt was pretty easy to set up, has more than enough power on tap, and blends well with my JBL 104 monitors. The dB meter in the studio peaks out in the mid 90s for the heavier program sounds. I have the subwoofers gain set pretty low, and the monitors set as I’ve had them for the last year or so…and WOW! So much more full sounding! This thing will vibrate the projection screen if you leave the gain set to unity…way more than needed for this setup.
The Bluetooth capabilities are handy for easy, low impact, setup. My laptop paired seamlessly with it…well mostly…the speakers are seen as reversed (left to right) by the audio setup app on my Mac, but that’s a quick and hassle free setting change. The JBLs are now hardwired to the Eris sub, so I don’t have the hassle of setting up an aggregate device on the Mac.
