What Amp, Combo or Separates Do You Prefer for Recording or Home Use?

Today's mic placement...jtm45 & 1960bx..Gibby Nighthawk doing the strumming.. MXL r144 ribbon in the sweet spot away from cab & 993 condenser 1" off...

figured out that captures really open sound for the chord ot clean type sounds for the basis to build onBlink mic1.jpg

I was watching Sammy's 70th birthday party at Cabo Wabo last night and it looked like he was using a Vintage Modern half stack on stage. His lead guitarist had a couple of 2 channel JVMs. I'd like to try a JVM.

I always favored an Ampeg SVT with 6146B power tubes with an external plate hat on the top of the tube glass, BLUE LINE, from 69'/70' years. Seems kinda dangerous to have that kind of voltage connection exposed! But this thing really pumps and gives so much tone to the bass it is just silly. I liked em so much that I bought one to let who ever was playing bass with me use. Only problem I've ever had is, after moving them I can pull up my socks without bending down for about two days!

lil guy changed everything...has post & pre di out to board & mic the cab. I have SVT rig,,this get its to a T..or will pull b15 motown on ported 15. Can pick it up with 1 hand, the svt210av cab is tight ! It wont do big gig..but the dynamics..the string attack..my studio guy got one immediately after i brought it in. Small..all the tones..handle my jazz,P & thumper Ibby well.
Its an eye opener if you a bass freak..its like playing a plexi with dimed..its just there in response on the guitarView attachment 33644
I know this thead is ancient but I was looking at that Ampeg 210 cab for bass.

I have played through a Mark Bass 2x10 300w combo.
It was glorious!
Plus the black and yellow color scheme looks cool!
That was from a long time ago :) Now I play bass in a band. Practicing I use a DI into a computer or a DI into the power section of a Quilter 101R guitar amp with Epifani 1x12 bass speaker. Live with the band or at full on band practices I use the DI into an Ampeg RB210 combo (500 watts, two 10" speakers) and the Epifani 1x12. The Epifani 1x12 is an uncredible speaker. It's very light with a very full, round sound. I use the EHX Batallion DI. It allows me to shape the tone for whatever bass I'm using, has a built in compressor, and a very configurable drive channel.

For the last 5 or 6 years its been the CabClone DI built into my Mesa Mark V 25.

My Satriani Marshall half stack is right next to me when I record. Once in a great while I'll throw a KM184 on it to capture a few riffs.

Now days it's really just about grabbing a karaoke tune and singing over it though. Been that way for a while. Rip the YouTube audio usually then put my frog sounding voice over it.
