Like the title says…
We just got an injection of new members here. Enough to warrant adding a new recording space.
So….New blood, or old, everyone… whatcha running for a DAW?

Me? Alright…I’ll go…

In the box….Reaper. Tried a few others way back, but settled there. If I’m working on an actual computer, Reaper is my comfort zone.

Portable/remote…. iOS…a little app that’s been around for a long time, Multitrack DAW by Harmonicdog. Like an old 4 track in simplicity, but with up to 32 tracks these days.

Very nice! I can appreciate the willingness to take advantage of both digital and analog domains.
Working on a console and I can work for several hours at a stretch and lose track of time. Working in the computer exhausts me in a couple of hours. I kinda use the computer more like a tape deck this way. I started on tape and still love working with tape when I can. I use Protools and the apogee like a 16 channel 2” deck and the Apollo and Harrison Mixbus like my two track mixdown deck with my console in between. I used to use two computers, but lately I use both interfaces and DAWs on the same computer. This lets me use all the Apollo plug ins with both Protools and Mixbus.

Very nice! I can dig that point of view. I’ve got to get out of the box more often. I just dabble, using a Soundcraft Signature 12 MTK. Sometimes wish I had gone with the 22, but my desk is small and well established in my universe, and I cling to my old MCU…so…again…space. I wind up busing groups out for mixing, and outboard visits, on occasion. I may have to read up on Mixbus. Thanks!

I’m a bit of a Luddite with this stuff (or just lazy…probably the latter). I record everything into a Boss BR-800 unit. I then export the tracks and do a basic mix in audacity. I video myself while recording and then put it together using VSDC.

Here’s a sample:

I haven’t even reached amateur status yet when it comes to recording. Not even sure I qualify as a beginner yet. But I do have Abelton Live Lite since it came with some piece of hardware I installed on my old desktop years ago. And I did download Reaper…. Although I haven’t paid for it yet since I’ve barely used it.

Coolest part is the Browser window that shows thumbnails of all the plugs/instruments amongst other things. From here you can simply drag a plug or plugs right on to the track for use.

I also have "paid" Reaper and have had it for many years. I still use it to quicky make a vid involving a "master" made with Studio One. I could have easily gotten by with Reaper, but S1 is so damn sexy regarding the interface and usability.

I bet 75% of the people haven't paid for Reaper yet. I'm still evaluating.
However I do like it enough. Buying it is on a list of things to do.

Iblive, I had for more than a year before I decided to dive in. I'm glad I did since it works well with the hardware I acquired.

^^^ both of those.
I am still discovering things in Reaper. In the past year or so I've been getting really comfortable with it. Still learning new tricks with it.

The Multitrack DAW is thanks to Don. I use that when I go to my son's place and jam with him. Which hasnt happened in a while because his new job takes up a ton of his time.

I just got Ableton 12 still learning but works well with Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol 14 Ultimate
most of the time just use Tascam Model 24 no DAW 6 channels for drums
I started with my little DW Collectors set the 20" bass drum was not happening toms sounded great
switched to my Ludwig set killer bass 24" 13" tom 16" tom 18" tom and my friend Joe plays drums and I play guitar

Although Audacity is a free program, I find it to be a very powerful tool. Aside from your basic mixing, I have also used it to isolate tracks of songs that I have downloaded completely separating the instruments and vocals. Additionally I have been able to create subliminal audio tracks that can't be heard with your ears, but can be heard subconsciously and viewed on the VU meter.
