What’s on ya board

Pretty simple ...

Some of the Line6 ToneCore pedals are pretty cool - on the web there's a lot of love for the Echo Park.
I have a Roto Machine. Sounds fantastic, but it weighs three or four pounds... Built to last.
That's funny. The Roto Machine is the only one I don't have. I think. They all sound fantastic actually. I ended up getting the comp, the Tap Tremolo and the distortions in a bundle used clearance deal at a Guitar Center a long time ago but I never used them until recently. I thought, and still do think, they're god-awful ugly, weird, and so unnecessarily heavy. They sat in a box for a decade and a half. Then when I was putting together a board of True Stereo effects, I realized I didn't have a True Stereo Flanger. There weren't many options back then. This was before Reverb.com and the pedal boom we are currently experiencing. So, the only thing I could find was the cartridge of the Line 6 Tonecore Liqua Flange. It was on clearance from Musician's Friend if I remember correctly. I still needed a base for it so I dug out the box and used the base of the Tap Tremolo. I don't know if you have heard it, but the Liqua Flange sounds awesome! I used it on my true stereo board for a while and popped in the Tremolo card every once in a while, it sounds great too, but was never happy with the weight, aesthetics, etc. I replaced it with the Pyramids by EQD some time after it came out and put the Tonecore stuff back in the box.
To make a long story longer, I was sick of tripping over amps and pedals in my bedroom plus I wanted to utilize the effects that were wasting space in the box so I decided to do something different. I ended up finding two 5 watt Epiphone Valve Juniors and put each of them on opposite sides of the headboard of my bed. The pedals are atop a small dresser next to my bed and I have utilized the old pedals I had that weren't board worthy along with the Tonecore stuff. I found the auto-wah, chorus, delay, and reverb on either ebay or Reverb.com for reasonable prices. They seem to have increased substantially in value since then. All the undesirable attributes of the Tonecore pedals have proven to be beneficial using them on a table top instead of a board. I don't have them mounted with Velcro. They remain in place due to their weight and bulkiness. Since they don't move around I was able to save alot of interconnecting cable and utilize 1/4" couplers. Which I don't normally do. I used some painters tape on the power wiring to keep it all neat. 16 pedals in all including my ancient, plastic Arion Stage Tuner. I'm also using a BOSS WL-20 wireless so I don't have anything to trip over anymore in my bedroom.

Yeah, all the Tonecore pedals sound amazing and perform great in the right circumstances. I still feel they are too cumbersome for a floor based pedalboard.
