Not sure what I'd add. Maybe a delay.
I'm very much a "straight in" kinda player. Occasionally the wah. My first pedal in probably 16 years or so was that BE-OD...and that was a game changer lol

I have some others, but they don't really get used in my rig anymore. LRT's running my old GE-7 in the loop of his JCM900, and it makes a way bigger difference there than it does in my rig, so he can keep it for the time being. Which works out, because his Crybaby is in my chain right now lol...Have some other random things collecting dust

I think most of what I have is just because I am a little inquisitive of what stuff sounds like. I often find myself playing with most effects off lol

I run my DSL40CR with a GT-100 in 5CM.
My VS65R (non-MV Valvestate) is run with this pedalboard setup in 5CM too.
So there are choices there for either amp in stereo with the other slaved.
The board is a RockBoard Tres 3.2 with the MOD 1 patchbay.
The LS-2 switches between (A) 4CM with the preamp and OD pedals (Spark>OD-20>preamp), or (B) direct into the MT-2(>NS-2).
The LS-2 output (MONO) feeds into the Zoom MS-70CDR and then the FX returns (STEREO).
The OD-20 switches the VS65R channels too (AMP CTRL).
I am waiting to afford a BOSS RC-3 to fill the gap (got a bit ahead of myself with the FS-7!).
The JHS LBAB is MV for the VS65R FX return.

4CM is the 4-Cable Method of connecting FX pedals or a multi-effect to an amps preamp and power amp in Mono.
5CM is the same but with another FX return cable added to slave a second power amp (i.e. stereo).
It is only stereo if the final effects pedals (TBEs) have stereo outputs, otherwise it is just double mono (e.g. MXR 10-Band EQ).

Some multi-effects have 2 built-in FX loops (e.g. GT-1000, Helix), so you could place a separate amp preamp in each and run the stereo outputs back to each in 7CM!
That would be 3 cables per amp and one for the guitar input.

Thank you very much for the lesson! I don't use multi-effects and have always run everything straight into the amp input as, up until now, I have never owned an amp with an effects loop. I am seriously considering running my time based effects (phase, chorus, delay, reverb) into my loop to see how well that works.
 
I have always run my pedal board into the clean channel of my amp before so the time based effects were not being distorted by the amp.
I am very interested to hear the differences in using the loop versus not using it.

That is how I ran my DSL401 for years with a GT-8 and then a GT-10.
Then I found out about 4CM and tried it out.
It has to be better to be able to use all the available gain settings/channels in the preamp of the expensive amp you forked out for, you would think!
But the DSL401 had a series/parallel loop that could only go upto 50%/50% and the dry signal killed all the TBEs.
I tried various kill-dry signal scenarios to try and get it to work but failed.
So I traded up to the DSL40CR with a series loop and all was good!

If you have a parallel loop in your amp (what is your amp?) you may get problems with the direct signal cancelling the TBEs.
Series loops and series/parallel that can go upto 100% series are generally a doddle.
 
My elaborate swamp system consists of small amp heads of 100.00 and or 66.00 variety--SURROUNDED by a PLETHORA of pedal selection (only 1 of which is actually plugged in) -- and is only used with the VHT or the Lil sexy which dont have reverb --
the FUZZ (nano) is "occasionally " or was -- employed with the Mesa -- to give it "hair" at liveable home volume levels .......or on the days I play Sabbath Bass lines.
P bass--- nano Fuzz-- Hartke -- NAILS Geezer tone ;)

Here's my board. One thing I am planning to change is to remove the MXR Black Label Chorus (and just use the chorus built into the MS-3) and replace it with a Mooer 009 Black Night mini preamp pedal.

Besides the chorus we have an MXR Super Badass Variac Fuzz, a Rockboard Natural Sound Buffer (under the board below the expression pedal), a tuner mute pedal made by my friend Ryan Simm, a Boss TU3-S tuner (always on), a Boss MS-3 switcher/mulit-fx, an MXR/CAE Boost/Linedriver, a Boss FS-7 footswitch, a Boss EV-30 expression pedal, and a Rockboard MOD 5 Patchbay / D.I. / I.R. loader, all powered by a T-Rex Fuel Tank Chameleon. The board is obviously a Rockboard Tres 3.1 with the flight case, as you can see in the photo. The board has been modified to fit an IEC socket and a USB socket.

As far as time based effects the Lexicon lab rat from the Lexicon lab it's not a PCM80 it has ten times the power of a PCM90
on my rack the Dumbelator on the bottom first knob master volume next effects level in next effects effects level out driven by a 12AX7
I run it in my amp's effects loop

The DSL40C has a series FX loop. You should have no problems.

BTW (in case you didn't know)
Series loop: the whole signal exits the amp from the Send and re-enters the amp via the Return.
Parallel loop: the post-preamp signal is split, and 50% remains un-processed (dry) having, never left the amp. The wet and dry signals are then blended after the Return.
Series/parallel loop: a knob allows adjustment of the wet/dry blend. Some can go 100% either way (VS65R) or only from 100% dry to 50/50 wet/dry (DSL401).
