Had a bit of a breeze (high wind warning... 60mph gusts) in NE Illinois this afternoon. Had supper ready to go into oven. Roasted veggies. Oven fried fish. Lost power for a couple hours. So..... enter Plan "B." My timing was off a bit on the fish, but ultimately it all worked out. Was yummy. Not the first time I've had to fire up the grill to use as an oven due to power outage.

Well it ain't mine, but since I'm stuck here I thought I'd post a few pics of my dad's latest smoker/grill project.

This one is mounted on a car trailer.

It's a pretty big one. I had him grab my phone and got him to take a few more pics for me so I could share.

Uhm….. understatement of the year….. but me thinks your pop takes his grilling pretty serious.
That he does.
This is just the most recent thing he's working on. He's got a whole collection of different grills/smokers/outdoors cooking stuff.

A while back he got himself a big ass propane stainless steel rotisserie, someone built it, put it on ebay or something, dad bid on it for gits and shiggles not thinking he'd win it, and now he's stuck with it lol! So that has been in the shop too, getting fixed up.

He's also got a whole hog cooker around here somewhere, and he's currently in the process of building a big 8 foot long grill, Blackstone style.

Over the weekend smoked a turkey breast and a couple Mahi Mahi filets. Fish turned into a smoked Mahi Mahi cheese spread. It went nicely on a Ritz. Turkey was just for making sandwiches.

Tonight I turned this:

Into this. Bacon Jalapeño Cheese Burger topped with spinach leaves, tomato and onion rings. Food Network has nuthin’ on me.

Looking pretty good!
Are you liking the reverse flow design?
Also, what are the red thingies on either side of the lid in the pic there?
Reverse flow seems to work as advertised. Usually temperature in the barrel is hottest by the fire box. I had almost even temperature on both sides. In fact. The side farthest from the fire box was actually a few degrees higher than the side closest to the firebox.

The red thingys. Clamps to hold the lid closed tighter. Hopefully to help keep smoke and heat leakage to a minimum.
