I think I can speak for some of us LONG Term OG's, and some of the short to longer term invited folks. We welcome all members from around the world. Some have left us due to differences of opinion./philosophies etc, but for the most part, I would say that 95% of the members won't step on anyone else's toes and be a jerk.

I hope for the best experience for anyone who chooses to spend 1 day or 10,000 days here.

I started with CLI on a Data General Nova. Then on to CP/M before DOS existed. Bought DOS 1.0 in 1981 when the PC arrived. Used just about every DOS and Windows versions, skipped Bob and Me.

This is nothing. 16 pages.... 300+ posts. Check out ""Announcing... RiffMasters!" We're up to 190 pages and about 3800 posts.

For you new folk immigrating from the strat forum..... you may want to check it out and join the fun. Sorta a no pressure competition. You know the improv show on TV where the questions are made up and the points don't matter.

rolandson, as you might see by my previous posts, I am a huge harmony fan. If drama occurs in other forums, Strat Talk, Everything SG, Marshall Amp, My Les Paul etc, I just tune it out.

HOWEVER, as an OG here, one of the hugest reasons why this place even exists is due to what us other OG's know and experienced, ALEX changed the EverythingSG forum in a major way and refused to fix the awful thing he did.

Some folks that were there even before me, either had roles in gathering, posting, compiling a hugely valuable resource that Alex bascially shltcanned. This was what amounted to an in depth encyclopedia of historical data, catalogs, specs and all things SG that any player or fan could research and find it in writing virtually anything from the original Les Paul SG's to the then current mid 2010's models.

This was and is a serious travesty for Alex to willingly destroy this resource and not give a dang.

I joined ETSG in 2009. If memory serves, that was before all this went down...... And it was pretty much downhill from there. Which is really too bad. When I first joined it wasn't that different from what TTR is now. Good info. People getting along. Etc.

I still go to ETSG and other forums, and if I am aware of any " junk" at ETSG for example, I don't see it. Instead, I just make use of positive posts about stuff I can learn from good members postings.

I check in from time to time. But certainly not an everyday venture. More like the Pizza Forum I'm on.... go there if I'm trying to learn something. ETSG as a forum was a good place to go after buying my first electric. The G400 I have. Learned a lot. Was well worth my time to be there.

C-Grin, I am glad you found us here. I really can't see any reasons to ban folks from forums unless they are scammers, wack jobs, potential psychos or perennial rules violators. I have known some of the latter 3 of these, and known multiple forums they were banned from. However, they also had never made any ill or rules violating posts or PM's in relating to me specifically. I can think of one in particular who I did my best to encourage to triumph over some of his demons and struggles, and I do think that my messages of hope and encouragement has led to improved physical and mental health and a better direction to his life.

I think for me.... There was a noticeable difference from old owner to new owner. More Trolls for one. Had one go after me over comments I made in a thread. Pretty much insulted my intelligence. I've been in some form of Customer Service for the majority of my working career. Pretty much learned to not let angry customer get to me..... realized they were upset about a situation, not at me. I am horrible, though, when/if said customer gets personal. I fight back. Which I did...... then found out from another member I was in a pi$$ing contest with a 16 year old. Which of course made me feel pretty stupid. He disappeared shortly after the encounter. But that was just one instance that seemed to be happening in threads more often after the new owner took over. And there was certainly many good threads. Many good people. There's just less drama here. And I'm too old for drama.

Yup, these instances did occur.

Much like Gaydar,, I have a pretty high functioning Bot/Troll/butthead radar as well. This helps me avoid conflicts.

I get my intelligence insulted all the time and you know what I say to the person who is the offender?
I say “ Mom knock it off and I will clean up the basement tomorrow, now go make me a sandwich. “
 
I've been part of ST since 2012 excluding a self imposed exile for a couple of years around 2018-2020. It's always been an ebb/flow of personalities and modding styles but when I returned in 2020, it was clear something had changed. It seemed much more argumentative amongst the members and so may of my old friends were gone or posting less. I stayed on as there were enough old friends still there and I made some new ones along the way but I participate much less than in the past.

There are still many members who can't resist telling you in great detail why the sky is red if you say it's blue but those are easy enough to ignore. I must have missed all of this recent mod drama and I'm happy for it. I won't say anything bad about the mod in question other than I've never been close to him...although it was never for a lack of trying. I eventually stopped trying as I'm no one's sycophant.

It sucks that so many are now exiling themselves from the place but I understand. That's why I'm here since for me it's the people, not the place. If this is where the cool people are then I'll hang here as well. I'll still hang there as well as long as there are still some friendly names to be found.
