Good point.
I am always told my rig sounds very good and balanced, but I want to try and refocus the stage presence somewhat.
I've found myself, where I am standing next to my amp (working without monitors) and I can't hear it at all. Then, take a few steps left, to where i am standing right in front of it, and i can hear it, but it sounds like its really low volume and muddy...then take 4 or 5 steps backwards and the soundwave hits you like an Express train!!!!
Yah, you need at least eight or ten feet of distance to really hear an amp. Beam blockers might help with that - not certain though.
My understanding is that they're more about mitigating the on-axis harshness, rather than actually giving better diffusion overall.
Depending on the cab, maybe an amp stand or tiltback hardware in addition to the beam blockers...
Someone upthread mentioned open back cabs - much better diffusion than sealed cabs, though rather different in both feel & tone.
Also, they're more interactive with the local soundspace, so they can sound very different from one stage to another.
That's not to say that a beam blocker might not benefit these too - open back combos are beamy too, sometimes.
