Issued by: Environment and Climate Change Canada
Description
Snow expected Sunday.

What:
Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm.
Reduced visibility in snow and local blowing snow.

When:
Sunday morning through Sunday night.

Additional information:
Snow will taper to periods of light snow or flurries Sunday night.

Easterly winds gusting 40 to 50 km/h may result in local blowing snow, particularly for exposed areas.

Stay inside and stay safe Norm. Us old retired folk don't need to be getting out in this kind of weather.

Still not 100% sure on what we're getting here in NE Illinois. Dang forecast seems to change every 15 minutes.... so I stopped checking. Figure it out Monday morning after it moves on outa here. I am aware Southern Illinois is getting hammered. may see a foot plus (30+ cm). Feeling really worried for the folk more toward Louisiana and that part of the U.S. They may see multiple inches of ice coating trees and wires and power poles. I'll take snow any day over ice.

Same to you Rick, yes the weather guys aren't even sure, about what the totals might be. Its been some cold for the last 2 days, way below normal. there has been 20 degree swings in temps , totally crazy. We no longer get seasons, we just get weather.

Booourns.
We haven't had snow thankfully just frightening cold. Getting better tomorrow.
Cool factoid.
10 days ago was above freezing, around plus 4C.
Fri AM was -40 C. The range temperature change over those days is 44° C, or as an absolute on a scale around 90 degrees F difference! Ya never know here.

Just been out shopping, I had to manually unlock the door to my Tacoma, there is a clicking noise and nothing happens, . Well driver door unlocked once, hopefully everything gets back to normal once it warms up. My battery operated cameras have been dead for the last 2 days. We expect some snow tonight but nothing major .

This is ancient history. But Feb 2011 we had a doozy of a blizzard. Among other things, it shut down Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. Over 1000 vehicles stuck in the drifts. At our house we ended up with about 18" of real snow...... but the drift on the sidewalk to the front door was 4ft deep. This is a photo I took looking out the small door on the garage. Other people that had similar drifts shared photos of boring holes in the drifts.... with beer bottles stuck in the holes to stay cold.

Yea Don, that's a lot of snow you have there! You guys even beat Toronto , they got 19 inches . But I have to tell you, the 9 inches is a lot for us here in the banana belt of Southwestern, Ontario.

It’s not that bad….

I’ve had worse. Very drifty stuff…hard to pin down a true depth. I’m gonna hazard a guess of around 20 inches(give or take). The snowblower cut through it really well…like a hot knife through butter. It’s compacting now too. Last night it was so granular, it was hard to get a shovel full. Like trying to shovel confectionery sugar with a swizzle stick.

When we bought this place in 2019 I bought this Cub Cadet blower from HD. Works great. Our yearly average is about 2-3 feet of snow.

But in 2023 we got a biblical storm of 10 feet. The blower was useless at those levels. So I bought this.

Much nicer being in a heated cab listening to mp3s on the radio.

Got about two feet here also. Saturday, I tried running my snowblower for the first time in over a year. No beuno. The carb is junk from ethanol. Luckily caught my neighbor as he was out hitting a couple of other houses on the street with his snowblower. He did my sidewalk and the entry to my driveway. The rest I can pick at leisurely with a shovel. Now got to deal with the snowblower. It'll probably be spring before I can get in anyone's schedule for service. I'm really hating my job and traveling so much lately.

Fuel can be an issue I shut off the fuel supply valve every use my snow blower and generator until it runs out then use the drain screw at the bottom of the carburetor float bowl why the fuel barge on the return trip they fill the tanks with salt water
