I have a little bit of money, and I'm thinking of getting a CHEAP, used fuzz. I have a germanium Fuzz Face, but not a silicon one. I have a bunch of others including a Little Muff. I'm leaning towards a Silicon Fuzz Face, or maybe an EHX Satisfaction. I can easily mod the Satisfaction with a switch and a few caps to add some low ends. What do you think?

I have a very old Fuzz Face with germanium transistors. I only use 9 volt batteries because the 9 volt power supply makes it nuts. Even the incorrect battery like a copper top plays havoc.
When it has its has it own way things could not be better. They are killers. They love the neck pup on a Fender Strat, not pick ups with two crappy magnets put on the bottom.

It sounds really good. It's a little more than I wanted to spend, but not impossible. I mentioned the 2 above because I can get the silicon ff for 59 and the Ehx for 30.00. I like that the Wampler has the two modes and a tone control.
Up to now, Ive really loved the fuzz faces and the Fulltone 69/70. When the mini FF came out, I waited for used ones and got the germanium which I love dearly. I thought it would be cool to get more bite (like the Silicon). The Satisfaction is way trebly, but 1 capacter added to an empty position gives more bass. I already have a muff, so thats covered. It's a little too modern sounding. I am vintage.
The Wampler has a thick sound, very nice. I may wait a little for that.

That variac fuzz above is their Band of Gypsys fuzz with extra controls. Very cool too.
I agree, modding is always fun. It's just a PIA since Radio Shack closed. Ijust have a feeling it never will never get crazy.

For $30 the EHX would be a whole lot of fun, you can mod it and you're not throwing loads of $$$ at it.

The Velvet Fuzz is amazing, but if you just want fun and modding then go for the EHX (in fact, get 2 EHX - the nano Double Muff can also be had really cheap and is a lot of fun).

Agreed, just a smidge over the top I think.

And that's mostly what Im looking for, some fun and some good tones. That and I have this pedal acquisition issue.

I love fuzz! I love fuzz! Velvet fuzz, Big Muff Pi, DOD vintage fuzz, blond Merkin, Havalina Germanium fuzz, mini fuzz face, Jimi Hendrix silicon, FZ-2 Hyper fuzz, etc. etc. etc. I can keep going on guys. I love fuzz! I probably have more OD pedals than fuzz is the big "however" but...............I love fuzz. My first effect was a Muff Fuzz. If it wasn't for bad ass fuzz..........I wouldn't have no fuzz at all! I'm going to vote but....................I love them all. I still have to vote which is tough because, I love both of what I'm voting on. I recently tried out a Gibson Maestro FZ-1A and was not particularly moved. It might have been a bland issue but, we all love the tone Keef got with the original FZ-1. I like dozens of uses that the mighty fuzz has been used to create rendered bitchen tones since I was an iddy biddy kid.

I really love fuzzes too. I've got a bunch including the new one. My Little Muff is definitely one of my favorites. It's funny how everyone seems to have their own fuzz preferences. That heavy fuzz on so many 70s classic rock anthums sounds so... awesome (It's hard to come up with a word).
