Von Herndon Double Neck:

Ok, so the 1megaohm pot was a huge improvement in tone, giving the bridge much more clarity. The addition of the 0.01uf K40Y PIO tone capacitor gives the shared master tone a very fine and gradual influence over tone. This might be a little to bright on a Les Paul or SG, but considering how far the bridge pickup is from the bridge on this guitar, it really does work incredibly well.

At first, its hard to detect the tonal change with the tone control because it is very subtle, but its there.

I was going to install the Kevin Taylor Erupter in the bridge this morning, but I need to take the double neck to rehearsal at noon, so I decided not to get tied up in the pickup swap for the moment.

The plan is to remove the cover from the SLE-101 Alnico II in the neck and swap in a polished Alnico IV magnet with North to slugs, to give me the OOP effect in the middle position.

The tone is already a huge improvement and it is like pulling a wet towel off the speaker cabinet.

The Erupter is about 9.5k vs. my current bridge pickup's 8.2k.

Kevin Taylor wound these as an exact replica of EVH's "Frankensteined" ES-335 Humbucker, with nickel silver base plate, wood spacers and Alnico II magnets.

This should get interesting....

Built my own neck pickup from a Gibson 490 and a 57 Classic with a polished Alnico V magnet, putting out around 7.7kΩ. Pickups are set at 4/32" from the strings as SOP...

Wow...It really made a difference. The wet towel has been pulled off the cabinet. No more need to tweak the double neck with an EQ. I can switch between this and my Gibson SG and never have to change the amp settings, which saves time during live performances. Since the 12 strings is always played through it's own amp, I wanted to get a very similar tone from both the six-string side of the double neck and the Gibson SG.

To say the least, I am very impressed with the 9.5kΩ/AlNico II Kevin Taylor. The bridge now cuts through, yet retains enough of its character that EQ'ing (externally with a pedal) isn't necessary.

Here's a quick tone sample on the bridge, volume and tones full up:

Even through the speaker on my phone, which is very low fi, I can hear the difference. I'll give it a listen through a proper system this afternoon. Cheers

My goal with the VH Double Neck was to get enough similarity between it - and my Gibson SG - that I could switch guitars without having to re-EQ the amp for the six string. Keep in mind the 12 string said is always played through it's own amp with settings specifically tailored for the 12 string's timbre and presence.

The SG is using 500kΩ pots, a .033uf PIO on the bridge and a .015uf PIO on the neck with a factory defect (180° OOP) Alnico II Gibson 57 Classic in the Bridge, measuring 9.4kΩ and a stock Gibson Burstbucker Pro in the bridge

The VH Double neck is using a 500kΩ volume and 1MegΩ tone pot (shared between pickups) with Kevin Taylor Alnico II in the bridge measuring 9.6kΩ. The neck pickup is a custom (from non-functioning Gibson pickup parts) Alnico V that is aroun 8kΩ

Listen to the similarities when played through the same amp and settings with zero effects:
