Noise suppressors should always go before any time-based effect. In my experience time-based effects are not noisy anyway. The only way they become noisy is through problems with power supplies, generally daisy chaining.

The inherently noisy stuff is gain and compression, so you want your noise suppressor after all of that.

Robert's enthusiasm made me pull the trigger on a volume pedal. I have the AMT Little Loud Mouth (LLM-2) on the way. I will place it after dirt so I can lower my volume and maintain the distortion
 
Do you have an effects loop on your amp if so run your time base effects in the loop. I use a Dumblelator it has a volume level control and a effects level control and the effects on the amp is inserted after the preamp before the phase inverter to the power amp In my world It's rare to use time base effects but when I do I don't want the preamp in the mix depending on the preamp
it can multiply the signal at a factor of a million times and on time base effects that sucks.

The answer to your question is contained in the following question:

Is your drive produced in the preamp or before amp (in effect pedals)?

If you put it before the thing that produces drive then that will be affected as you use the pedal. In effect it will be like using the volume knob on your guitar.

If you put it after the thing that produces drive then the gain structure will be unaffected. If your gain is produced in the amp this will require an effects loop.

In either case it is best to put any delays and reverb at the end of the chain, after the volume pedal.

I didn't even know my 1997 Marshall VS265 had an effects loop!!!!
