Valvetronix to new heights

I have a VT30, and the way it works is that it has a small valve amp that is the source of tone, crunch - everything you want, and it is followed by what amounts to a transistor Hi Fi amp with no sonic characteristics. This provides the 30 watts.

So it occurred to me that this could be the basis of a really big amp, and all the bits could go in the box with the rest. So I bought all the necessary bits from Ebay. They weigh roughly nothing, and with an external speaker I will have a 300W amp.

That's two power supplies and the 300W amp. The whole thing has cost me £30. How's that for a deal?

It will certainly get protection. But while I get it all fettled and tuned it's more convenient without.

Looks very nice and promising

300W is a whole lot, even from a solid state. Will you be playing live with this, or is it like many of the best projects...you do it because you can?

Bump. What happened with this monster amp build?

It's on hold right now. The amp isn't behaving the way it should and I'm going through it with a guy who designed it, trying to fault find. If we can't fix it between us, he's going to send another.

Faulty equipment could be the most frustrating part of any project.
