V1 Tube Swap in DSL40C:

WOW!!!! This T12AX7 Gold Lion (Russian) in V1 totally changed my DSL40C!!! Previously, I was running TAD 7025WA's in V1,V2,V3 & V4 with EH EL-34 power tunes. Amp sounded good, but with the gain all the way up, I felt like I still needed more.

Enter the Gold Lion:

Wow....heavy, saturated gain, so thick and full, I actually was able to turn it down!!!! More presence, more bass, but yet brighter definition and I had to cut the mids a little, whereas before, with the 7025-WA's. mids were boosted to 10 and more was needed.

Biggest single difference yet!!!!

Gotcha! Well, I only changed the tube for its gain properties anyways...is the rubber o-ring around V1 a good thing???

Seems like it would hold heat in the tube???
I've had good luck with the " o rings" on problem tubes, especially with combos..
As long as the tubes are good and not microphonic, the o ring is really not needed, but they will help a preamp tube on the edge, to hold on a bit longer.

I think the full length spring loaded tube shields would hold more heat than the o ring thing.

The V1 on my Fender HRD I put a 12AT7 to replace the 12AX7 because loud was out of control. Hit 2 on the volume and it's too loud. Now I have a bit more free space all the way to 4 then the craziness starts. I never let go all the way out. In the loud area it reminds me of my old Black Face.
It loves my Tele, that guitar never sounded so good.

Ever try a 12DW7 1/2 7025 1/2 12AT7
