Ukefest 2016

'Ukulele!

My first instrument.

Great stuff! I assume you have the big pick scarf?

And I'm spending a lot of time on lap steel these days.

Anyone for a Lu'au?

Heket, that's really cool.

I see you guys did Folsom Prison Blues.

We do a version of that that is sort of a rock-a-billy (ish) version of that song.

Yep, that's me in the scarf. All the ladies are wearing one actually, but mine is really visible. It was a hot day, I didn't fancy tying it around my neck!

We have several uke bands running out of our local music scene! Our local music shop is really big on ukes and they run workshops and lessons and also organise bands. It's pretty cool for those who are interested in a strum along every week, and they're always looking for bassists. The shop owner kept badgering me about it for a year before I finally gave in and joined :P

Awesome, great for you!
strum along. I like the sound of that, informal jam type of thing.
I'm not ready for it but at some point maybe.

That is very catchy!
I honestly have never seen a Uke Band before --- learn something new every day!

Thank you for posting.

I can't believe you guys have never seen uke bands! Maybe it's not as big there as it is here in the UK? There are loads ukulele societies and bands popping up, and this festival is one of several ukulele-dedicated festivals across the country. I used to dislike them, I mean they're the complete opposite of bass, but I have been assimilated...

I too have never seen a Uke band........ I have a little yellow Uke. (Mahalo) I sound horrible on it --- my large paws mangle the poor thing....... but my Grandson loves playing along with me when he is here.

I am so used to playing this beastie

I can stretch 11 frets on the uke! --- but I cant play a three fret progression to save me life :( the frets are SOOO tiny -----

How is the basss uke? perhaps THAT could be my JAM ?

By UK and US standards I live in a small town but we have two (possibly more?) uke bands. Our music shops have ukes by the dozen for sale.
My wife has two, her favourite is a six string Lanikai.

Having a wife as enthusiastic as oneself can be a problem LOL.
Yep she has a corner of oddball stuff, I'm most impressed when she gets her Merlin into play.

Excellent - could hear you well in the Kirsty McColl. And I loved the Quo - Francis and Rick would have been proud.

But where was that? I looks outdoors.

Yep, in one of the fields outside my town. Uke Fest 2017 has the green light if you like ukes and fancy taking a trip out to the suburbs.

I'm certainly up for that - looks like fun. Do many people in the audience bring their own and join in?
