Happy Monday StrapFreaks! Yeah, I'm one too, feel absolutely no shame. A wonderful strap can take a great rig into EXCEPTIONAL territory, no knob twistin' or tube rollin' required!
Since it seems everything anyone wants to talk about is space these days, here's a pic of the completed "Fair Warning: Needs Space" from last week - now in the store. These are leather and as robust as good safety gear needs to be! And long too... a couple of them go past 60" long territory. Not sure why the photo yellow looks washed out. Must be a saturation thing. The ribbon is very yellow!
You know StrapLab friends, I recently turned 60 and I think maybe that's partially why I've been kind of moody lately. My wife called me out on it on a few days ago, and for once she was right! Got me thinking. Sure I've got my battles, we all do... but when I look at the sum of the parts of them, they don't really amount to all that much, and I generally need to pull my head out and just be more grateful. And as it turned out, on Sunday I had a rare empty afternoon, and as I seem happiest when my hands are busy....i tackled a craft project I've been rolling around in my head for months...
First, I designed some lettering for an approx 48" by 11" simple sign made up of a couple of rogue 1X6 fence boards on my computer box
Printed out pieces of the letters on regular letter paper, taped them together on the roughly painted blue painted base sign, traced, then painted the letters
Added a rough white highlight up top, and shadows on the bottom
Looked pretty nice until took a wire brush and some gravelly dirt to it, I maybe went a bit too far.
Always hard to tell when enough is enough. I think if I ever relic'd a guitar it would turn out awful!
We had this blank wall space left above our cupboards after my wife painted the kitchen last fall, she got rid of the art that had been there for near fifteen years. So I had my eye on it that prime real estate.
Today's Special.
I like the thought of it. I do most of the cooking around here, but don't really use recipes. Nobody goes hungry and seldom do plates go in the garbage LOL! The running joke, even after the kids have left, is what's "Dad's Special" of the day. So, it works for that... but more importantly is the other meaning.
I thought about that a LOT for the few hours making and installing this sign took me - and I think it was good for my head. Pounded the message home.
By the way, last night's Dad's Special was an adapted greek salad, with the typical cukes, tomatos, onions, sweet peppers, olives, feta, fresh oregano, garlic etc...
Only I steered off from trad style by adding cooked shrimp and cold pasta shells. I then and invented an amazing dressing with lime juice, EVOO, dijon, honey, Sriracha and chili powder... and of course some garlic bread - OMG! Best Salad I've ever made I think
Fresh, light tart, with a little kick and a hint of sweetness too. Perfect summer dish. Like a Mexican lady married a Greek dude, and they moved to Italy.
Coming tomorrow, I'm trying to wrap my head around these silky paisley fabrics I purchased online but didn't turn out like I was hoping they would. Way it goes! I'm gonna try something new and different.
See what I did with it tomorrow. Hope it not a picture of them in the garbage can LOL!
