TVvoodoo's Straplab

Happy Friday my bros! Photo in from a Reverber... JT in Wisconsin... "Bandido" on an unlikely partner, but it works!

"Brad was awesome to work with and truly makes a fine strap. Communication was great throughout the process and now I've got the final product, it's well made and more of a strap that feels like less... It doesn't really feel like I'm wearing a strap and I just focus on trying to learn the damn guitar instead of wrestle it. I've got two more in the mail already." ~JT

Some leather lace came in, so now I can finish the Waylon style... but... I dorked around for a solid two hours trying to work with this lace and a special stitch hole punch I purchased special for this job. Kept breaking the lace trying to get it through the small holes far too close together. Finally realized I probably got the wrong punch. Time to switch to manual@!

So, I just ground down a small screwdriver, fixed it so that I could get an accurate angle and punched a gazillion slots all around the strap to get that diamond "Buckstitch" effect.

Getting the spacing on the stitch slots more difficult with a single punch, but at least it's finally working. Did not bargain for how hard this is, or how long it takes. This dude is going to get a deal!

Coming along... I had to quit halfway through this one... because it was shredding up my fingers, and my hand was aching pretty bad. Lotta work to something like this!

Also sent away this custom embossed strap to a more "local" fellow in Edmonton...
A rare 3" wide leather strap that has a hootenanny sliding buckle adjustment.
Finding stampable leather thin enough to sew a rolled edge AND put through the buckle was part of the process.

Also a very challenging job... was also a pretty intense learning process to do this.
Hope your weekend has good things in store for all y'alls! My brother is visiting, so we gonna play some guitar!

In the background, I've been just a-givin' 'er! Even despite a little tree-trimmin accident where I hit the ground like a wet sack of poop!! Only two days left to finish preppin'.

Anyone here from Edmonton area? Drop by and say "Hi!" This Sunday. Mr. Potato Head, if you somehow make it I'll give you a free set of Pro- Pins!

I wish I could be there my friend! Good luck with the show.

@Mr. Potato Head, thank you for your well-wishes, as potato-dudes go you are a Yukon Gold for sure.

These shows are totally hit and miss I find. One show I'll move a dozen straps, another I'll move two LOL!
Can be a bit maddening when I fret about it for weeks, drive seven hours there and back, pay the booth fee, spring for a hotel
room etc... But I get a feeling I'm finally beginning to get some "brand traction" after a working this full time for a few years.

A hundred dudes will drop by the booth, scoping for free picks and stickers, and of course a business card to "definitely" order up
that custom strap. Unfortunately they seem to perish off the face of the earth in a tragic margarita blending accident, I'm guessing.

But what I really love is getting to meet some of the brothers who've picked up a strap or three, in-person. Also fun to watch a few
guitar brothers discover the sort of sling they've been seeking for years and find out it was being made by a guy only a few hours away.

The StrapLab has temporarily turned into a T-shirt lab, while I whip up a few for the guitar show. One more tick off the To-do list

Particularly digging this "None More Black" Special Run Limited Edition... Might have to hold one back for myself.

Here's something fun... a couple weeks ago a fella named Bopa King Carré located in the big apple contacted me for a strap for his bass. Don't know why, but that handle sounded suspiciously worth looking up, so I did. Turns out he's a busy working pro, though it seems from his Youtube clips way he's more famous for his mad percussion skillz than his bottom end guitar work... but bass is a groove thing too, amirite?

Anyway, he grabbed up "Warhorse" from the No Prisoners series, figuring he'd take a flyer on this obscure, suggestively named Canadian strap company hardly nobody has ever heard of. After "Warhorse" arrived he said nice stuff, dropped a referral to his good buddy who immediately picked a strap too, then purchased a second WH for himself, Dirty Honey! That's a great customer!

He tells me a Well-Hung 200% Powered by High Octane banner is now proudly flying high in his studio. Rock on, BKC!

Yep.
Have you got business cards for the band? We want you to play xyz...
To never be heard from again.
Hey have fun at the show Brad!
Cheers

We have our 3rd test pilot booked for the developing Axe Warrior Strap... sending one out to another forum brother tomorrow.
Head dude at Pinter Guitars is also now putting one through its paces

Stanley of Wisconsin-based Midnight Crow is digging his, a LOT!

He's a total road warrior who breaks stuff. will Axe Warrior be able to hang with him? We shall see!

This weekend, finally the Edmonton gatfest went down. I wish I had more time to go around and snap pics of all the sexy guitars, but the truth is, I'm focused on my customers at these things, and the questions and action at my table was relentless.

Record number of vendors this year, it was throngs of guitarists for about three hours, then it sort of leveled out to reasonable. I didn't do as well as last year, but it's always so great to meet some customers in person, see some old pals and meet some new friends too. Lot of business cards went out too.
I do need to make more straps for ladies for these events. My stuff is maybe a bit on the macho side.

Thanks to Kevin "The Great Dandeno" fopr allowing me to keep this "Outlaw" strap for a few extra days so I could show it off.

I chatted up the ENG guy for CBC News when he came by... (Pulled my former ENG/EFP career card, and found we know some of the same people, though I haven't worked in broadcast since 2004) - quick shot of my table actually made the nightly news - unfortunately I can't show the gunsling they put in the story (along wth some straps too) because the text on the sling rhymes with truck blue dough. On the mothercorpse? OMG too funny!

My cheesy skull-carved strat got huge attention for whatever reason. I almost didn't take it. People snapping pics of it left and right - who knew?

My inventory is packed up and all put away, had to go through the store to deleted things that I can't sell twice, but the Reverb store is now fully re-opened. I put off a few custom jobs I have to get after now in a hurry too!

Also working with some faux leather that came in... totally weird unselable colours like HOT red and Goofy orange... so I am re-dying it into something more palatable...
Hope to expand upon the Well-Hung Big Bird series early next month. I have one custom order already for a black one.

Stay tuned, put this thread on watch... you don't want to miss what's coming up! and yes @Mr. Potato Head I still know you want a Tee, but you have to correctly answer a skill-testing question first and pinky swear to wear it for all future Premier Guitar photoshoots, and any other modelling engagements you happen to be booked for

@Don O This is the goofy orange... so harsh on they eyes, and what I managed to dye it into. I

F-book follows will have seen this already, but gotta mention some recent kudos came in, in a new "honkin' my horn" format I've started using.

My straps truly are different, and it's not by a just a little bit. And brothers, I'm not making this stuff up! These are real people who've been given a new lease on guitarin' life via renewed enjoyment/pleasure and practical utility offered by Well-Hung product. I try and try to impart upon folks the Well-Hung difference in this thread and other online writings, but it too often seems to fall upon blind eyes and deaf ears.

The price is sick I tells ya! Lit! Off the chain! Totally slaps! Far Out, the bees knees and the cat's pajamas too, (last one's for you, Don O)

Today I powered through a custom order a fella has been waiting for for too long, but today I get to announce two new Wild Things "Big Birds" were born mid-afternoon, made special to his situation, lengthwise, and luxury Rolls Royce padding.

Sg0ptc1I_o.jpg

Still waiting to hear back if he's a straplock user or not before I punch holes. 2 ultra padded Big Birds ere, one in in Wino Red (custom dye job), the other in Basic Black. No actual ostriches harmed or tortured by this, (look it up, but I suggest waiting until after dinner), because it's a pretty nice feeling faux leather. Of course, real good strong leather on the nose and tail ends, for trusty longevity.

Last of the "Axe Warrior" prototypes going out tomorrow, I think. To a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, so that's going to be real helpful!
