TVvoodoo's Straplab

I've been kind of busy my bros! Some custom work... for a fella goes by TJ - He doesn't know what's coming. He's the boss, soon retiring...
I was contacted by a employees to see if I could help them with a retirement gift that'll knock his socks off!

I can customize most any strap with a small leather tag like this, and it's not crazy pricey, but does take a few extra days.

VwEBcXnh_o.jpg

Also got a new pair in the store made out of this very curious art deco upholstery fabric I found.
It's sort of Vox-ish, with metallic gold diamonds on a brown background... then these crazy little velvety gems in between.
Trippy stuff! The Cat's Pajamas, so they said.

mJSwHA4Y_o.jpg

first second I saw it, it reminded me of the grillcloth you might find on one of those big ol' 30's and 40's radios, you know, the ornate wooden ones... (not that I'm old enough to remember those days), but I felt compelled to call the strap "Radio Ga-Ga"

LZLbAL0K_o.jpg

Also got this reverb message back from Mr. Garcia on "Golden Grill,"
"Omg, I'm in love with it and I can feel my shoulder thanking me already! Thanks so much!"

GHZqdcZo_o.jpg

You are very welcome sir! Thanks to other members of the Well-Hung Warrior Tribe, he found out about Well-Hung straps in a forum thread where the discussion was in particular about guitar comfort. As promised, he's finding it unusually shoulder-pleasing - but you guys know I also try to bring that without having 'em look like orthopedic old-man straps like so many others. What a drop-dead gorgeous custom, and a great pleasure to share this photo - I do hope I allows him many more pleasurable hours underneath this beauty

Got another Dragonfly on the go here... the old timey-style leather carving/tooling.

Who doesn't love skeeter hawks? Beautiful and efficient killers!

Basic shapes carved out then beveled - Also this shot is after one dye stage of light yellow.
After that sets in, I resist coat the wings on the bugs, so they stay a lighter colour after the next
antique stage

Sr1oMW5g_o.jpg

Antiquing paste can get a little messy, but you gotta rub it into all the nooks and crannies

kEiF5XlU_o.jpg

Then wipe it off.

9eVd1TKQ_o.jpg

I could just probably just finish it as it is here, would look pretty great... but I wanted juice it up a bit... Dragonflies come in gorgeous colours!

mxFLmrMu_o.jpg

Some iridescent paints for the body in green and blue, plus gold sparkle for the eyes. Also a light
rub of metallic gold paste wax on those wings. - She's now in the clearcoating stage 3.
I'll put two more thin coats of clear on it, then assemble with my typical padding and lining etc.

This one is not a custom order, so it's going to appear in the store next week probably. Haven't
tooled anything for months, so I wanted to refresh my skills a bit. I'll show a finished pic in a few days.

I have the a standing offer right now for a custom western style name strap with up to ten letters
down the front, if anyone wants a personalized strap, western border similar to as shown above along
the sides too. $150 US. I will donate all the proceeds except mailing costs to keep TTR rolling
as Wavmixer noted last night, he would like some assistance from members to keep the lights on.

So, you can get credit here for supporting The Tone Rooms, and get a custom strap at the same time!

Here's an example of the kind of lettering and border tooling you can expect for that price.... (these are rifle slings)
I can try to match a particular guitar if you wish. I would normally charge about $250-275 for something like this
in a 3" wide padded guitar strap. (paisley or something ornate would be more).

Couple new No Prisoners series straps in the Well-Hung Reverb shoppe... "Stormbringer" and this one below....

BCbEcIx5_o.jpg

"The Dominator" is loaded with super glittery faux diamond studs, ball chain, and regular nickel rivets on dark brown gator, and buttery suede leather. 3" wide, ultra padded, up to 60" long. REally, when I tried it on, and went to the mirror, it was fun to watch the glitter dance all up and down in the lights, on stage I could never live up to this thing, but I'm sure someone out there is gonna give it a try.

Also added a couple of new Shock & Awe straps the other day, #93 and #94 - one of my best, most popular straps. They are the 5-star general of military-themed strap, built on 3" wide Korean war surplus webbing, in cotton (which is important). This one below is un-relic'd but I'll battlefield it up for you, no extra charge!

ZX9hBI4P_o.jpg

Brent got his "X-istential Threat" strap the other day, he's one of the Well-Hung Warrior elders and never fails to leave a fun feedback "Wow! Well-Hung does it again with the X-istential Threat strap! Nice and soft material with that perfect padding for shoulder comfort, a nice grippy material for the inside, and strong leather ends for strength. Now, Brad makes great straps (I have a few of them), and I'll never doubt his talent, but this strap is so soft and comfy, it's like having a pillow holding the guitar on my shoulder. If you're on the fence, get over it and get Well-Hung! You won't regret it!"

Welcoming a new member to the Shock & Awe militia, "Harry" Henderson joins the forces with #90.
He digs it enough that this one is his second one after purchasing his first maybe six months ago.

7uhc9vsL_o.jpg

Speaking of second purchase, same strap, Alex in Kentucky just picked up his second "Hammered," and the last one in the store for his surfy thunderstick. "I love my hammered strap, Brad makes the best straps I've ever had. It matches everything, fits and looks awesome.
When I saw you had another I knew I had to get it or I would regret it the next time I had to use an inferior strap."

3lUMUP4k_o.jpg

I approve this message! When you find something great, remember: one is none and two are one!

Also I failed to show "StormBringer" a couple days ago... pretty fresh in the store from the No Prisoners line...
a little nickel, a little gold, and a whole lot of attitude. 3" wide, lots of black leather, padded, long 'n strong.

I showed the Jr. Paul below already, but after picking up something out of the PRS Wood Library (which is rather different than "library wood," I'm told), Brent in Michigan is now having trouble deciding...

Maybe folks reading this can help? Please Chime in in the comments.

4ACAKzGe_o.jpg

Be nice to know if anyone is reading this thread

Personally, while the PRS seems like a genius match, I like the Paul better.

To me the strap is fighting for attention on/with that PRS. With the LP, they both get to shine.
A smart lady on F-book noted it's about "visual energy, too much, versus complimentary.
Now that's maybe a bit deep / new age for me, but I do have a tele covered in crystals.

Pro Tip: Took this the other day, the result of that hazy smoke effect we have in the sky now, it's a great time to take guitar pics outdoors! You get magic hour all day long and it's a bit diffused too, so softer shadows. Practically everything looks it's best, no digital filters required.

Back in the day when I worked in a film grip or later on as a lighting cameraman, there was specific family of gels I'd put on lights called "Bastard Amber" which I particularly loved for backlighting, for golden highlights in the hair almost every situation. But if you wanted anybody's face to look super godly/angelic, particularly ladies, this was the gel to pull out. Pinning this on key or fill lights (front) could make you an instant hero.

Finished shot of Dragonfly... should have taken it outside too LOL!

Oh Geeez Whiz! Looks like another Shock & Awe militia member /warrior incoming!
Raise your grape knee-highs for a toast

Members of the clan, please welcome Cap'n "Vibes" who will be stationed on watch in Salem, NY. Logistics are worked out, soft or hard deployment could happen any moment, stand by!

Today... a full day of measurin' twice, cuttin' once, on some really fabulous hair-on cowhide. A very short hair, so it seems almost legit leopard, (though it's obviously a mini-print).

These still have a LOT of work left. Padding the pads out, lining them, sewing all the skinny straps attaching the buckle hardware, punching holes etc. Will finish these tomorrow I figure

hyXwYHeF_o.jpg

This weekend I sadly sold off the last of the "Baby Leos" in the Well-Hung Reverb shop. Not a bestseller, not the mostest comfy of my straps, nor easiest to make but dammit just something so bitchin' about 'em! One of my favourite designs, had to keep one back for my ownself. It's got jungle, pimp, metal, and rockroll cool vibes all bundled into a small, visually power-packed package.

Floatin' pad straps were never my thing, 'til i began making one I feel is trusty & comfy enough to put a Well-Hung emblem on.

Posted on other platforms, but worthy of mentioning because... pics!

First off Kevin in Californy "Amazingly crafted guitar strap, the quality is beyond any I strap I encountered, I might sound like I’m exaggerating but trust me, his work is great. Definitely would like to recommend to other guitarists and musicians. Not only fine work but an honest and absolute caring seller, that’s the big cherry on the top for me!"

Entirely suitable "Feelin' Randy" with that polka dot Jackson, but I kept looking at that other beast too! A V-strat with maple scalloped board. What am I looking at???????

Then I got this back from a fellow MLP'r with the Thunderbird and Jabberwock joining forces putting all mankind at risk

nk5zWjru_o.jpg

"My Jabberwock II arrived today. Along with my Cheezies. Holy :poo:-balls this thing is gorgeous, and well crafted. You can tell @TVvoodoo plays, also. He knows how to craft a great product that another player will enjoy. His straps aren't just straps, they are a piece of equipment."

Today I completed one I'm going to call "Maverick" a new No Prisoners strap made mostly out of genuine F-tweed, (the real stuff not the vinyl crap), and a beautiful western belt in black and gray with a little basktweave tooling and some elegant cowboy bling on it in tarnishing silverplate

View attachment 487270

This one goes near 60" and was designed for a larger blackguard blonde-wielding madman. Its not nutty or crazy,
but it ain't boring either. Plenty of heavy black leather, padding and cowboy mojo

Summer is full of great festivals, folk fests, fringe fest, food fests etc... This week here in the StrapLab, under the omnipotent authority of me, it has been declared it Genocide Fest!

Now probably most Genocides aren't much to celebrate, but these ones definitely! This Well-Hung line features leather that has been embossed with a grisly, knarly tangle of skulls and bones, for a dark and moody effect. Keef knows. Skulls have that perennial cool effect, remind us all of our impending doom, but used this way, they are a less in-your-face, gotta look twice kind of cool.

New in the store tonight will be two freshies, "Toxic Shock" and "Ghostses"

"Toxic" is emerald green, with a dry brush of metallic gold, sittin' on 3" wide padded black leather. Adjusts between 46" to 60" which is about ten inches longer than most store-bought ladderbacks

uaTRRIL2_o.jpg

"Ghostses" is a bluey silver, almost pelham bodybits, on a darker pelham... almost aqua background,
all sitting on a 3" wide padded black base. This one goes best between 42 - 58"

CpSXD42i_o.jpg

The pelham blues didn't come out in the pics too well but it's there- I adjusted this photo below with some "colour magic" to better represent what it looks like in real life
maybe a just tad more aqua, or surfy blue/green than shown.

gzsOND4r_o.jpg

Over the next few days watch for "Fever Dream" below, and a bunch more Genocide Series slings now in various stages of completion These are all hand-dyed and painted by me, my goal is to make each of them different, though some do end up being close to what I've done before. Have an idea for your special guitar? I may consider giving it a try!

All Genocides are long, strong with great leather ends, rolled edges along the sides, and my ultra padded main body for unrivaled guitarin' comfort.

Someone is getting into the skull game!

@Mr. Potato Head Your mention caused me to look back at my Reverb listing history. Genocide #1 went up on Reverb December 2017, sold Jan 13 2018. so not I'm really not new to the skull game

Furthermore, this Yamastrat dremel carve started in August of 2014

9VGa23sG_o.jpg

back in the 15th century, European Christan Churches were built loaded with skull imagery carved into the rock walls and floor.
carved-memorial-sculptures-with-skulls-on-st-bartholemews-church-on-crar0a.jpg

On a trip to Belgium and France maybe a dozen years ago, I openly wondered why there were so many Harley Davidson Winged Death's Head skull logos prominent in all the ancient cathedrals we toured, practically everywhere you look. Freaky as Heck! Basically, we were told, with an aim to terrify people about the afterlife.

I think they picked up on this decor scheme possibly from style cues from Keith Richards.

I should clarify, this skull embossed leather is not hand-tooled. It comes in sheets of pinkished hued raw vegtan leather already run through a heated press for this effect. But, it's really hard to find sometimes, so last time I saw some, I picked up a few hides. It's lambskin, not cheap, but really fun to play around with. Now I may not tool this pattern, but these are definitely hand-dyed and hand-painted. I am trying to not repeat the same twice. I probably will eventually though.

Have I mentioned how much it drives me nuts when Big Strap companies show you a strap with a embossed pattern in it, and they call it "Hand-tooled?" Ever wonder how they can make a thousand of them that are exactly the very same pattern? psssht! Big roller presses, just poop 'em out by the dozen.

Before we get to new strappage... got a nice message in from Johnny in Colorado. He's in a oufit called "Not Quite AlRight" ...says they do a lot of alternative stuff... he was looking for a match for his bass that seems to have mirror ball tiles as a pickguard, and to him it seemed "Disco Stu" would fit the bill

ILefTUer_o.jpg

"This strap is fantastic! Love the look, super comfy already feels broken in compared to the stiff XXXX's straps I've been using. Super soft and comfortable with tough quality leather ends. I suspect this won't be my last Well-Hung strap. Can't wait to blind people!"
J Taves - careful now!

Also announced a ways back that "Harry" picked up his second Shock & Awe. I didn't expect it to end up on this beauty!
"Incredible craftsmanship!! Wow!!!!! My 5th WELL HUNG STRAP!!!!" BH

I mean, LOOK AT THIS THING!!! Talk about a weapon of mass distraction!

6WApgBmY_o.jpg

Couple weeks ago, Al, a working pro in Shreveport, LA picked up a Cobra Chai floating pad strap, and a "Well of Souls" a previous Genocide strap. Here's what he had to say after a glorious double NSD - "Fast shipping & excellent communication. A real craftsman from Canada. My strap is beautiful and oh so comfortable. Brad is the real deal guys. Thanks again Brad, you rock mate! Buy his stuff!" Al is one of those fellas who needs a 58" strap. Not all of my straps work for him, but most do. I'm sure for many years he was frustrated with buying shorty straps like myself and may of you and feeling like a clown. In fact, he was so very pleased, he just sent for a Dirty Honey Python yesterday afternoon, and it's slithering his way as you read this.

Anyway, enough of all that... can't rest on past success... sooo the week-long Genocide Fest continues here in the straplab...

"Fever Dream" in tans, and rusty yellows shown in the post above is up in the store now, and as of this morning I also completed and added two more new Genocides for adoption... "Ancient Mariner" in deep navy blue with aged gold highlights - it looks black in most light, but it's a deeeeeep dark, dark blue on the main body.

EfP0lqtF_o.jpg

and "Shipwrecked" below in a nut brown suede leather, sort of a driftwood colour, with a contrasting strip in a similar brown, but with aged pewter bones and bits, all over it in contrast. This one is also stitched with contrasting light tan thread.

4rP45VK1_o.jpg

Tomorrow I hope to be able to show "Ninth Circle" and "Suspicious Drifter" which will be the final two of this exhausting but rather creative Festival of Genocide.

Had a random SG and Sum Long Hung Yung Guy dragon strap photo kicking around. Have no idea who sent it over. I have no SGs LOL

v2g3zVbJ_o.jpg

Also found this photo by "Tommygun" Thompson, Shock & Awe #89... not sure if I've posted it before

LOkyVCIx_o.jpg

I cleaned up the desktop of my desktop, it looked like soup it was so busy. Much better filed a whole bunch of stuff away where it should be

New in the store for you raving strapoholics to consider is one I named for my Thatbastarddon...
"Suspicious Drifter" goes pretty darn long.. up to about 64". Longest I ever made was 73" by the way. Funny story, it's what he ordered.
Then, when he got it, he complained that it was way too long.

xnWBQm7G_o.jpg

Also, rounding out the week-long Genocide Festival here in the StrapLab, "Ninth Circle" named from the Dante story of his guided tour of Hell.
Any one of you out there gonna look at this thing close, and start sweatin' all the bad stuff you done.

MtOMalO9_o.jpg

Envisioned this for a CSB, you know the one. All fiery hot red/oranges and such. If you listen close, you can even almost hear Mr. Potato Head's
tortured screams.

Remember fellas, as the song says, there's still time to change the road you're on. But maybe wait until after this weekend, amirite?:dood:
