Ok, reporting in on the Gunfighter. Been chatting with Johnny in the background. Last night i put two coats of resist on the flowers and vines/skull art on the strap.
This morning I laide on the black dye, thinking no problem, just a few swipes and we'll be good to go to the next step.
Well, I'm not going to show pictures here of that debacle, but F i my heart didn't stop near complete.

The black dye ate right through the resist coat all over the place, worse in some
not bad in others but really it looked blotchy and jobber, completely not what I was going for... I just wanted to go hide in a hole LOL! But... no time for that bull, time to work like the devil to see if I could salvage it.
Took some acetone rags to it and rubbed until my arms near fell off. Then went at it some more. After a time, it kind of started to look kind like something cool happening, like, western grunge or something.
Anyway, I messaged John that the sky had fallen but I was determined to see if I could save it, because I felt it still had hope.... and I was determined to try to bring out the cool I could see hidden in it.
So, after rubbing it like crazy, then letting the dye dry, I went over it again with more black, but just in the bits that were supposed to be black, with a small brush. going to do some touch ups
on that still too. But here it is as it stands now... again... the cowboy grunge thing comes out
Still have a few tricks up my sleeve to wrassle this thing down and tie 'er up, and bring it home.... I'll keep showing it. I plan to make a video of this, I'll put a shot or two of the horror in the video.
I was actually videotaping at the time, I'm sure the audio of all my cussing will be interesting in playback I just can't take looking at that right now because it makes my gut feel like it's got a big hole in 'er
They say the sign of a good craftsman is not about the mistakes he makes, but how he recovers. I aim to make this a strap Johnny'll wear and love, and if he don't well, we'll figure it out!
