Brad can ya make me one with the color of the second from left? That would go great with my Purple Heart fretboard guitars!

@Don O I want to say yes, but let's just watch to see what happens with the current one, it's kind of an experiment. Also this is not leather, it's a
vinyl material, strong and more flexy than leather, with a bit of a shine to it, but it's not leather.

I have this stuff which is real leather, might be closer to the wood. Purple is turning out to be a crazy colour to try to match up with. There are so many variations,
and if you don't match it well, it looks kind of bad, right?

No hurry Brad. Here’s a close up of one of the necks. I’ll get some better shots with good lighting before ya start.

So had a fellow contact me offa MLP the other day... he's a guitar builder, company called ADDICT GUITARS
He has one guitar he crafted in memory of his son passing away, and asked me to make a suitable strap for it.

The Pheonix inlay was a tattoo his son had, and he wanted to work off that theme. There are many more pics of other inlay work on this guitar, the back... on the website. He is a very talented builder.

So we came up with a design with some computerin'

Got it transferred to the a piece of dead cow

Got my knife all sharp and started to begin hacking and slashing

Then we hacked and slashed a little more

Then I set to bevelling. Again, I made myself do way too much detail. But it's how we get better at this stuff i guess

Good things are happening!

Getting ready to start thinking about how I am going to dye this one. Any suggestions?

Wish I had more to show for my day today. Was going to work on this flame strap more, but shortly after I got down to my shop, the emails started coming in.
Car dealer has me on retainer for graphic design work. he's got one of those advertising emergencies where he needs two different half page ads, and another
lower banner ad made pronto, deadlines you know. So, I drop what I'm doing and bang away at that, meanwhile a local law firm suddenly orders up ten different
business cards, printed envelopes and stationary for two offices. LOL! I'm not one to complain about too much work, but man! Spread it out guys!

Anyway, i promised mr. plum crazy python challenger guy I'd have his done and listed on reverb tonight, so I managed to even get that done too.
The phoenix guy was very cool when I had to apologize I hardly got nothing done on his.

Anyway, here's some pics of it red, because I like to keep updates going.
Tapped into a nice artery, and it got all spurty...

Actually about 60 drops fiebings red pro oil dye, 2 oz of isopropyl alky, and maybe five drops of black or so.

red flames.jpg

soaked it down real good, twice... it got real bloody red, at least where I want it to be that way.
The pinker bits are going to be black eventually, so no point getting them red. You should see how pink it is
in those places now after it all dried up!

Tonight I am going to lay on a resist coat on this emblem so it dries overnight. But I still have to make a bunch of changes
on one of the half page ads that came back. Sigh...

Hopefully continue a little bit tomorrow on this one too.
have a great night brothers!

Ohh... this just in... arrived in california...

seems that he's currently got some electrics work going on. What was he doing while waiting for this to arrive?
Man, it's like I patiently waited for her all the way up to the wedding night, then I suddenly to find out she was a tucker?

Sheesh!

Phoenix is coming along real good. But I'll tell you what men, I haven't rubbed at anything this hard since I was fourteen

I pitched this "burst" effect to him, thinking I was way more skilled at this than I actually am, but if you don't try stuff like this
you never learn how to actually do it, right? Got a few little boo boos with the masking I did when I dyed the top layer,
can't really be fixed, can't sand leather back like wood and do it again, unfortunately. It is what it is.

I like how the bird kind of glows, and how the flame fingers came out... as if they are reaching out for each other,
reminiscent of that renaissance painting I don't know who done it... guessing Michelangelo, or maybe Da Vinci?
Yeah, that's me... high frickin' culture LOL

This stuff should probably be done with an airbrush, but where's the heartpounding anxiety/fun in that?

I think once it's oiled and antiqued a bit, it's going to all blend real nicely, then buff it out and finish it up with a semi-gloss.

Brad, are you making that black and gold one? If so, let me know when its up on Reverb.

Don, actually, it's one I've been picking away at in between waiting for dye to dry and other things going on in the shop. It's mostly made now actually, I just have to punch adjustment holes in it, and nose and tail etc... I'll send you a few pics before I list it, see if it strikes your fancy, but it's going to be after the weekend probably.

My wife has a "honey do" list that is rather busy, but I'm pounding away at it, I hope she doesn't catch me on the computer.

Thanks Brad, no rush. The wife and I are off to see a Van Halen tribute band with another couple this evening.

@Don O here are a couple of pics of the Black Gold snakebelly now that it's done pretty much done except for some burnishing etc.

black gold 3.jpg
black gold 1.jpg
black gold 2.jpg

In photos it reads a bit more golden/yellowy than it actually is, but it's kind of spectacular in person
I think I might try this again, but be even more careful with the gold highlights so they are even more subtle than what it is
but these photos do seem to exaggerate how gold it is overall. It's the shine in the lights i think, and this is probably
what it would look like on stage.

Brad, let me know when it’s on Reverb or I can PayPal ya direct.

I dunno Don, I mean this strap is really quite kingly, or at the very least princely. Do you have any royal provenance in your family line? A magnificently royal strap such as this would weigh rather heavy on the shoulder of a commoner. 'Tis, however a proper strap for one carrying the genetic strength and fortitude instilled with noble birth. You carry yourself on this forum with the grace of a true and fine gentleman, I just want to make sure you feel you are ready for such a prize
