TVvoodoo's Straplab

Fresh in the store today - a new No Prisoners strap called "Velvet Fist," 3" wide padded, with maroon leather and a velvety/suede belt loaded with nickel grommets,
over 50 of them. 47"-59".

Mmmmm....
Me likey that one.
Damn tarriffs.

First off, how about a final photo the custom tooling/monogram job for a local young lady, soon to be gifted? It's going on a strat very similar to my 80's Washburn knockoff shown below. Frankly, it's great to have an instrument in the stable to show the full effect to customers, which is a point high up in my arguments for any NGD's I may happen to experience LOL! (haven't enjoyed one for a long while though). Thought about going mainly black, not brown, but I like this effect, looks less contrived.

New in the Reverb store, a rare Swamp Bottom Python. As I mentioned in the reverb listing, it's one of the more realistic natural snake scale patterned leather hides I've ever had here in the shop. If say I was strolling through the woods jus' minding my own business... then suddenly spied this strap lurking on the forest floor? Would likely be good cause to crap ones pantaloons.

IklWmJCw_o.jpg

it comes across a fair bit more olive green, than what the pictures show, but it's greys, greens, black and creme mostly. 3" wide, very nicely padded, as is my typical Snakes in the Brain Series.

I've been busy in the background here, not so much with strap stuff, but my pop is suddenly in the hospital with blood clots. Since I live in a rather remote-ish area, this greatly complicates an already stressful situation. Means travel back and forth. He's doing ok, it seems.... now on thinners, and undergoing lots of tests. I think I'll be retrieving him tomorrow, according to what he saw on his chart.

Derek in Calgary sent me a fun photo... He operates Tsunami Guitars, specializing in quality Asian imports, vintage stuff... mostly higher end Japanese...
Got to know him better at the Calgary Guitar show in Oct... his booth backed my own, he brought some amazing instruments, and some lovely ladies to help him!

I made him this custom tooled strap a few years ago for a special singlecut. But, just the other day sent this photo with it now mated to a tele - pretty cool tie-in with the matching fingerboard, and pickguard blossoms, gotta say.

Tomorrow I'll be sending off this Battlefront custom for Darren, or rather Darren's son for Christmas. He's a pre-teen player, off a year of lessons now. Dad wanted to gift him something with "WOW" factor. Darren called me out of the blue, he picked up a rare "Shock 'n Awe Black Ops version" numbered in the 30's at Stang Guitars in Edmonton, sometime in 2018. He and I collabed on putting together a Battlefront strap, which has replaced my Shock & Awe series.

One thing I noticed at the recent guitar shows was how many kids (and some adults) seemed entranced with the idea of some shotgun casings built into a strap.
Darren's mini-him apparently loves the wargaming universe, so it seemed a nice fit to add a couple up front, just in case, you know LOL!

I also included an extra tail strap that'll take the strap from 35" to 52". Because the strap the li'l guy is using right now is around 31" so the
tail strap will be a shorty for the next year or so. Wanted to be sure he could use this strap for many years ahead.

Speaking of gaming, if you are here on TTR, you likely know I have a history of running online interactive games. Sort of experimental, heavy on the mental.
Over the years I've done a Rock 'n Roll Survivor, a Game of Toanz, and something called RiffMasters. Basically think of them as online LARPing, with a musical
focus. I act loosely sort of a dungeon master/programmer. Now gearing up for another event I hope to start in December.

Iljq6eZT_o.gif

This year-long event will guide participants through the process of creating their very own concept album, ten tracks, over 52 weeks, and more fun along with the music. Participants can do it full home studio, OR if you wish, full-on AI music studio, or anywhere in-between. It's not a contest nor a talent show, no prizes other than kicks.
You'll enjoy a minimum of judgment and maximum of fun. It's simply just a creative "happening" using modern tools available, hopefully in the service of fighting back
musical malaise for like-minded forumites. There will be a collab component, but way easier than you might think. I do NOT want to make it difficult for anyone.

No cost other than your open-mindedness, good humour, time 'n energy. I hope it will happen here on TTR.
Now trying to build interest, and secure participants from TTR and elsewhere, there is a discussion thread here: Project Orpheus

It's been awhile since I reported in! Along with the above mentioned project,
I have completed a ten trakc "property management" concept album, a comedic take, via AI tools which is going to be a gift for someone special... and a few customs along the way too.

last week was kind of eaten up by this one, meant to be a gift from one band member to another

As you can see, the feather is based on a photo of a tattoo the giftee sports. I don't understand West Coast Indigenous art AT ALL, but I'm willing to try faking it.

Then a new stamping technique I've been wanting to try as silhouettes... basically punching in the shapes however you can, then later they will get dark. light tooling on the moon with a softer modeling tool.

For the longest time my raven lookd more like a damn seagull, until I figured out it was all in the crop, and the shape of the head.

And, the final... now off the Squamish, BC

Also on the bench right now, more sunflowers

And a little something for a dudes' guitar playin' wife, painted, dyed and oiled today.

I had a conversation with a member of the W-H tribe the other day, told me I should just re-open my store to USA business, even though I'm forced to charge them double what I typically ask, or even really need on a strap. I told him I didn't want to work for the us government. LOL! He says I should at least leave the door open for regulars to support me if they wish, and they'd understand I'm affected by trade winds I cannot control.

One of my fears is I suddenly get a swarm of reverb feedbacks saying my work isn't worth the huge cost, even though my own prices wouldn't actually change at all. The thing is, he countered saying... your work is still worth it.

I dunno. Maybe in the New Year. Anyone watching, 100% value your opinion, either openly or via PM.

Perhaps you could open limited runs and possibly calculate the shipping cost
increase ?

@ibmorjamn I surely could. The problem is again (this is a rough guess) my typical $175 US strap, (shipping included) cannot even be shipped to the US unless I first collect about an additional $150 from the customer and submit it to the US gov't.

Well friends... been an interesting week leading into the holidays, though really, I've stopped building custom straps, got my shopping done the other day, picked up my boy who bused in from Edmonton to a nearby city. He's suddenly working on a hipster man bun! LOL! kids these days.

All through this, trips to assist my parents, to pharmacy, get them the mail, banking, the groceries, all that. Yesterday I delivered a brand new walker for my pop who seems to be losing his balance, suddenly quite unsteady on his feet. Fact is, the past ten days he's not getting on so well. after his last stint in the hospital. Mom says he's hardly eating, no appetite. Pain in his abdomen (doctor suspects pancreatic cancer, but no firm diagnosis yet). He's on serious pain meds right now, an MRI is booked for the new year. If he's diagnosed with cancer, it's likely he wouldn't survive any treatment for it. So kind of a grim situation for anyone to be in. But, as of yesterday, a brand new walker. He ordered me to "Get the top of the line one." Sheesh! For what they are, pretty dang expensive! But, that's what he got, at least I got a seniors discount without asking, as I knew the pharmacist from my advertising days, and she gave me a little "tip" to come back yesterday, after I had it put aside Monday.

Another doctor trip today to ferry both parents to appointments this afternoon. I have a foreboding feeling I'll be driving my pop to a hospital further on, to another facility... uh, how do I say this... Perhaps he's not coming back. I don't want to be negative, hat's just how it feels. He looks really hollowed out, that look the elderly get when it's nearing their time.

I asked him what he wanted for Christmas last week. He said a daily organizer diary. Just like I used to use when I was in the ad sales business. He has taken to a habit of using his daytimer to catalog how his stocks are doing, manage the virtual pharmacy of pills he's taking, reminder notes of doctor appointments, palliative care visits from the local traveling nurse. So, very useful to him, commendable he's doing all this too.

Funny, he was never organized like this before, but the past couple of years it seems to have become be sort of an obsession for him. Also, he's reading the good book fervently. Been through it three times he says, in the past four years. Like he's preparing.

Anyway I went to an office supply joint the other day in the city, picked up his new daytimer. But I wanted his gift to be a little more special. So I decided I'd try my first "bookbinding" effort. Not superb, but for a first try ok.

This is a Greek Orthodox cross. He's of Romanian descent, still rather keen to the culture he grew up with. He'll appreciate this.

And because I feel pressed for time, I recycled a recent idea, adding a monogram to personalize it. It was a bit rushed, but I'm glad I completed it. I'll be taking it with me today, if I have to take him further on to
the hospital. Possibly an early Christmas gift.

WJqIpWrf_o.jpg

Was going to put 2026 on it too, then decided not in hopes he gets to use this sleeve for another year ahead perhaps. He'll be able to slip his next yearly planner into it. But honestly right now, I hope at this point he gets to fill many pages in this one.

This is something we all must go through, I'm no different than anyone else. Sorry to bring this circle of life stuff up, be a downer this time of year, but that's just what's on my mind these days. Not looking for sympathy, but maybe only
a little dad mojo. I've always treated this thread as sort of my diary too. Probably just needed to get some load off my chest.

++++ EDIT+++++++++
OH damn. Just before I hit the "post reply" button here my cell rang. I will only be taking my mom for her electrocardiogram in about an hour. She says dad is now once again in an ambulance on the way to hospital and hour and a half away. His third trip inside 4 weeks now. I hope this doesn't affect her test, but how can it not?

So, it's big weird alright. But... after all this rambling, I 100% wish everyone, all my brothers and sisters here on TTR a very Merry Christmas.

I'm going to hold a little tighter to every single smile I can grab onto this year, something I needed to be reminded, we all should try to do everyday.

I fetched him home tonight. Just got back. You'd think they could send a damn truck plow down the highway What a 3 hour ordeal. Living in the boonies sometimes has major disadvantages.

I imagine, it’s nice weather prevailing .
I have heard stories about cities when the plow runs through it piles the sidewalks 10’ high. So that would also suck.
