Tube vs Solid State

as I said earlier in the post on tube vs ss -- I cant tell that big a difference(not one that warrants the cost variable) -- I can play the Mesa--all tube Corksniffer-ish-- the Orange (hybrid) 80.00 mini amp-- the Roland SS and the Marshall Lead SS-and in the same room same guitar same tuning ---and they sound "different" but very close in "quality"

bedroom levels though -- its sad to say but the SS tech works BETTER -- gives more tonal options easier and a wider range
You cant get the "full effect" of the Orange -- or the Mesa -- at low levels -- yet the 3 watt Roland sounds HUGE richer fuller fatter BETTER than all the others--with crisper highs and full lows--- better even than the mesa that is 3 watts and a 5 Inch ? speaker vs 20 all tube watts and a 12" black shadow speaker--
-- now take the MESA on the back porch and you can have some fun , and blow the Roland into the next farm--- and in full boil the mesa is an amazing thing as is the Peavey 80 watt Bandit-- but they cant SHINE in a small space low volume--speaker isnt barely moving --

IF you got the room and $$$ and are playing gigs in a band the 100 watt marshalls and Oranges and AC 50's are GLORIOUS -- I LOVE them --
If your dicking around on Sunday morning and trying not to wake the rest of the house-- I can use my amps--- you cant even flip the on switch on on a JCM 100 and not wake the house ---

I can dick around on Sunday morning with my DSL100 and not wake the rest of the house - but the rest of the house might tell you different. But they aren't to be trusted. Everyone loves the smell of hot tubes in the morning.

Well Sabb away!

The Mark series have a master volume that will change your mind about all that. Crushing tone at whisper volume, better than any SS/Modeler can dream of.
That being said, I do use my Katana for low-volume playing simply because of the ease-of-use factor of having multiple amp sounds and the effects all in one box.
