Been thinking about installing the Genelex Russian Made B759 Gold Lion preamp tubes that have worked so well for me in DSL40C's when high gain is desired. Keep in mind the 'Gold-Pin' B759 is Russian made, but the 'Standard Pin' B759 is a 'Shuguang' tube, made in P.R.C.
I did find this recommendation from Tube Amp Doctor:
Product information "Tubeset for Marshall Origin 50H and 20H"
Tubeset for Marshall Origin 50H and 20H
In the first position (V1), this tube set features our RT010 7025 TAD HIGHGRADE Premium Selected which is outstanding because of its high gain but low microphony, powerful middles and a round, rich overtone sound.
For the second position (V2), we recommend our RT011 7025 S Premium Selected -Mullard style-. It delivers a rich, harmonically complex tone and mid-range warmth that is just outstanding compared to any other currently manufactured tube today; great warm and clean tones and creamy overdrive.
In the following third position we use our special Phase Driver selected RT001-BPD 12AX7A-C TAD, BALANCED PHASE DRIVER Selection.
For the power tubes, we only use a matched pair of our sensational new high-gain RT162 EL34B-STR TAD Premium Matched. These very dynamic tubes are an authentic remake of the British Mullard EL34. Their clear and harmonic open top end allows for great clean tone and at the same time, the TAD EL34B-STR offer incredibly powerful mids and equally powerful bass.
The golden control grid and especially large cooling grids guarantee maximum stability and reliability. Consequently, this EL34 provides a maximum of gain and dynamic response.
Tubeset includes:
1x RT010 - Input tube V1
7025 TAD HIGHGRADE Premium Selected
1x RT011 - V2
7025 S Premium Selected -Mullard style- TAD-Tubes
1x RT001-BPD - V3
12AX7A-C TAD, BALANCED PHASE DRIVER Selection
1x RT162 - Power Tubes
EL34B-STR TAD Premium Matched PAIR
Bias has to be set up in the Origin 50H (65mV across test point CN32)
The Origin 20 is cathode biased: no need to adjust!
However, I do not think that TAD is shooting for increased gain levels, like I am. In the DSL40C, i've had great results with lower-gain JJ 5751's in V2 and V3, with the Gold Lion B759 in V1 and V4, but because the Origin seems so different, I wanted to ask the more knowledgeable folks on TTR what their opinons of the B759 in V1, V2 & V3 would be in this amp specifically.
Thanks...
